Unread post by daoyama » Tue Mar 03, 2015 6:12 am

Hi all,

I'm a developer of NAS4Free project.
I have started to provide NAS4Free (based on FreeBSD) for ODROID-C1.
It contains useful apps and tools such as samba 4.1 and iperf3.

http://forums.nas4free.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8441

Now you can work on amazing ODROID-C1!

You can download the image from:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fr ... 4Free-ARM/

Enjoy NAS4Free world.

Hey Daisuke, it's great that such a legendary developer took an interest in the Odroid line! Gives me hope to replace my ageing AMD NAS with the proper ARM box with 6-8 SATA drives one day.

I didn't check ZFS until you said. I used only UFS and NTFS.
Unfortunately, ZFS kernel module is not bundled.
I will upload the bundled version soon.

At this time, USB driver have a problem. It's limited to around 20MB/s.
SMB share on memory disk is around 37.4MB/s (100MB file benchmark)
SMB share on UFS is around 22.7MB/s (100MB file benchmark)

For now, I have not an extra HDDs, so I use ancient 2.5-inch 4200rpm IDE HDD for ZFS test.
It says Toshiba MK2018GAP.

Code: Select all

da0: <TOSHIBA MK2018GAP 0811> Fixed Direct Access SCSI-0 device
da0: 40.000MB/s transfers
da0: 19077MB (39070080 512 byte sectors: 255H 63S/T 2432C)
SMB share on ZFS is around 22.6MB/s (100MB file benchmark)
SMB share on ZFS is around R8.0MB/s W3.2MB/s (4GB file benchmark)

I will check with 3.5inch HDD.

Hi,

I successfully installed NAS4Free on my C1. But I can't get ISCSI target working. Error: The changes could not be applied (error code 1). Shell tells me: Segmentation fault - On my Raspberry I haven't got any problems with ISCSI target. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Sorry for inconvenience.

It's a compilation problem. I've just fixed.

How to update istgt:
# mount -uw /cf
# cd /cf
# fetch http://www.peach.ne.jp/archives/nas4fre ... 401.tar.gz
# umount /cf
# mount /cf
# tar -C /usr/local/bin -zxf /cf/istgt-update-20150401.tar.gz

If this works for you, please add it from "System|Advanced|Command scripts".

Command: tar -C /usr/local/bin -zxf /cf/istgt-update-20150401.tar.gz
Type: Postinit

Please remove it after next upgrading.

Thanks,

My C1 can't boot with this image. Blue LED always ON, blank screen and nothing else. I use Sandisk Ultra 32GB card, and write it with Win32DiskImager (3 different versions). Images 1351, 1353 - same things.
This SD card works fine with lubuntu and android.

Images for RPi works on RPi stable.

Hi,

I had to change the type from "PostInit" to "PreInit". Now it's fine! Thank you very much! ;)

Thank you for interesting.
gdemon wrote:Blue LED always ON
This is not a bug. NAS4Free use Blue LED as eMMC/MicroSD activity and OS image is loaded to RAM disk called xmd.
gdemon wrote:blank screen
Currently it boot with 720x480 (480p) only. Probably your monitor does not support it.
I don't have solution.
If possible, please try to change 480p in boot.ini and replace 720x480.

Do you use correct image?

NAS4Free-oc1-SD-9.3.0.2.1364.img

It's latest image for ODROID-C1 at writing time.

If does not see anything, please edit boot.ini on FAT partition.

video open; video clear; video dev open 720p
fdt set /mesonfb fb_width 1280
fdt set /mesonfb fb_height 720

NAS4Free does not use all area but you should see something if 720p is supported.

Hi

I have the same problem.

I use NAS4Free-oc1-SD-9.3.0.2.1364.img

I changed the parameters that you indicate, but I still see nothing.

I tried on three TVs of the brand LG and Samsung.

Thanks

It seems u-boot HDMI problem since NAS4Free never reset video setting.

If your MicroSD card have no boot delay issue, bootup proccess takes about 65 seconds.
Try to connect to http://192.168.1.250/ from your web browser after the power is turned on 100 seconds.

If you don't use 192.168.1.0/24 network or your router have no route for it, please add temporary IP like 192.168.1.100 to your PC.
If connected, go to "Network|LAN Management", set correct IP or DHCP and reboot.

If your monitor have DVI or VGA connector, try to use HDMI-DVI or HDMI-VGA adapter(cable).
I use cascaded Dell 71PXP 8 port KVM + HDMI-VGA adapter both RaspberryPi and ODROID-C1.

Note: If you don't have console, you cannot reset admin password. So don't forget admin password!
All other work can be run from web browser(WebGUI) or SSH login.

I have added RPi2 support to NAS4Free and improved SMB performance.
Now you can compare ODROID-C1 and RPi2.
Try it.
