Performance of ODROID-U3 slower than a Galaxy S3 in 3DMark

Unread post by kurkosdr » Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:59 am

When running the 3DMark "Ice Storm" benchmark, I get a graphics score of only 2166 points, with 7fps and 14.1fps for the first and second graphics test respectively.

The thermally constrained Galaxy S3 (Exynos 4 quad) gets 2650 points in graphics (8.3fps and 18.7fps in first and second test) :| The Galaxy Note II gets 3135 points, with 9.9fps and 21.5 fps respectively.

The "physics score" of the ODROID-U3 is much higher than the score of both Galaxy devices, so it's not a hardware/overheating problem.

Am I using a wrong ROM (I am using the 4.1.2 that came in the eMMC), or do I need to toggle some setting somewhere?

What scores are you guys getting from your ODROID-U3s? (feel free to list any benchmark, not just 3DMark, don't forget to mention your ROM).

PS: Yes, I know, noob question, but I searched around and didn't manage to find any solid info, or any solid graphics benchmark numbers.

If your HDMI resolution is 1920x1080 on U3, the benchmark score seems to be reasonable because Note2 is only 1280x800.

Lower the HDMI resolution to 1280x720 and change the CPU governor to "Performance" via ODROID-Utility.
It will give you much higher GPU benchmark score.

I already have the resolution set to 1280x720 (and the HDMI PHY to 720P).

Setting the CPU governor to "performance" increases the GPU performance a bit to 2412, but "physics" performance is reduced from 10542 to 5969

Will changing to a newer ROM help? What is the latest official hardkernel Android ROM considered "stable" (aka plays games and movies without artifacts and flitches)?
