[SOLVED] Slow samba speeds?

Post by Antho »

Hello, Currently I've pulled my odroid xu4 out of the closet. But while testing with the same file, I don't get the full gigabit to work. It's kinda jumping all over the place. Is there something I'm missing in my config or is this normal?

My setup:
  • Cloudshell 2
  • Odroid XU4 (of course)
  • Gigabit ethernet (cat5e cable, also tested with another cables)
  • Same file size (11 GB)
  • Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS (I used the image created prob by hardkernel based on the img 'ubuntu-22.04-5.4-minimal-odroid-xu4-20220721.img')
Both devices are in the same network and are updated

Not too bad but it could be near 90MB/sec or slightly more.

Which file system do you use with the SATA HDDs in CloudShell2?
Also run a bidirectional iperf test to check network throughput.

I've set the partition to ext4.

Later today I will run the network test

Note that ext4 has a lazy format option enabled by default causing lower performance until it finishes formatting. depending on the size of the disk you may need to leave it running idle for a few hours until it finishes formatting.

Thanks for you help :)

Samba issue has been resolved and I have a solid 100MB/s up and down.

Whelp my main issue was that I didn't set my samba share correctly. Soooow, it was reading and writing to the SD card (#akward)

Next to that I've tested again and saw that I was reading to the odroid with 100+ speeds (yeey). But sadly saw that the speeds from the odroid to my pc where like in the 50's. So after tweaking the globals (in the smb.conf), I've also have a solid 100MB/s

Tweaks I made (to the the smb.conf)

Code: Select all

[global]
   getwd cache = yes
   use sendfile = yes
   min receivefile size = 16384
   aio read size = 0
