Fighting COVID-19 with Odroids

Post by MarkOct18 » Fri Mar 27, 2020 10:23 am

I want to run Folding@Home, a distributed computer app that does math on Covid-19 and other diseases. They have been around for 20 years.
https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/10/covid19-update/

I'll buy one of these devices to do this, but I need some help. I would like to run Ubuntu, but does the hardkernel version have all the libraries, and drivers need to run folding@home? And would it be possible to run Kodi too? I want to leave the device powered on 24/7/365.

So which device, how much memory will I need.

When I try to install the fahcontrol_7.5.1-1_all.deb version I get a list of 28 missing packages. Not very encouraging...
I'd try it on a fresh boot-device or make a backup of the existing installation, just in case...

I haven't seen arm64 packages from them. Maybe the android version might work...

Rosetta at home has 64-bit ARM jobs that are also being used for protein folding to fight the coronavirus.
