Among the XU, XU4Q, N2 and H2, which ones can be powered by battery?

Unread post by odroid_newuser » Mon Mar 23, 2020 12:05 pm

Hi, am I correct that among the four products, only XU and XU4Q can be powered by battery? If the N2 and H2 can also be powered by battery and if doin the same tasks, how long do they last and how the four products ranked in terms of battery life?

What is the capacity(voltage/ampere) of your battery?

BTW, this N2 UPS example might be helpful.

I have not bought the battery yet so any small and light battery one that can power the above four devices is good. The one in the link is no longer available.

Nope.
XU and XU4 are 5V/4A.
N2 is 12V/2A.
H2 is 15V/4A.

With the right DC-DC converter ( search buck boost converter ) you could run all of the above from battery. Most common are 5V (visit hobby shops for radio controlled stuff [5V BEC]) and 12V converters. Adjustable dc-dc converters are best.
Most of them run fine on 2s LiPO packs. With a 4 cell LiFePO4 pack you are very close to 12V applications. (like Car-electronics running from 9-14V). Not sure how tolerant the odroid N2 is?

How about the power input tolerance of H2?

If I don't do intensive stuffs, how long can the N2 and H2 last running on small battery?

H2 runs from 9V~19V.
But the minimum voltage must be 15Volt if you connect 3.5inch HDDs.

Calculate it by yourself to estimate the running time.
The small UPS capacity around 20Wh proably.
If your system consumes 40Watt with some peripherals, it can run around 30 minutes or less.
You need to make a list of peripherals with estimated power consumption first.

Thanks. If these four systems suddenly shut down unexpectedly such as a lost of power, will it damage the board, eMMC or corrupt the Linux system?

It won't damage the eMMC or device but it can corrupt the filesystem.

Thanks. Is there a way for the system to warn the user to shut down when the battery level is going down?
