In-Game Saving Doesn't Work

Unread post by deerwings » Fri Feb 14, 2020 2:46 am

In a game that has a built-in save function, such as Super Mario Land 2 for GB, Digimon World 3 for PSX, or Super Mario World for Snes, if you save a game the save does not stay. Only the save state stays.

The game appears to save just fine, but when the game returns to the main menu and you try to load a save in-game, the save does not populate as if the memory card files don't work.

I wonder what underlying gameboy emulator is being used in the ubuntu image. I know with my retro consoles whenever I'm using gambatte for gb and gbc roms, the saves work perfectly (and also really easy to copy saves between consoles). Have you tried another image i.e. batocera, retrorun, retroarena, emuelec? I'm sure once lakka is released it will work perfectly there.

The image used needs to be stated. I am not able to reproduce the issue using the reference image. A video or step by step directions to reproduce it will be needed.

The reference image uses libretro pcsx rearmed for PSX, libretro snes9x for SNES, and mgba (stand alone) for GB/GBC/GBA.

Step by step.

Game > Legend of Dragoon Image used > Reference

Get to save point > save game (it states the game was saved and I see a save slot was recreated on the fake memory card) > exit the game (either home button or turning off the power) > reload game (reloads via save state, even after the game was 'saved') > go to save again and there is no saved game.

Game > Legend of Dragoon
What emulation system is being used (PSX, GB, SNES, etc)?

Is there a video somewhere showing this?

https://youtu.be/_sSIKvG5Z8Y?t=693 Not my video, linked time but if that doesn't work 11:33. Unlike the video though the game tells me a save slot was created and I can see the saved game. But leaving the game and coming back there isn't a save.

I have identified the issue and resolved it. The fix will be included in the next image release:

I'm using the reference image 02/06/2020 Ubuntu 18.04 image. Save States work with Function 1, but so far I've tested Gameboy, Genesis and Playstation and when saving a game inside the game itself, it would appear to work fine but then if you went to trigger loading the data (Such as if you reach game over) and it wouldn't be there. But if there is a fix, I will be looking forward to it!
