Galaxy S7 Edge problem with USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Unread post by unknownuser3 » Wed Feb 05, 2020 2:42 am

Hi there,

as you know, the S7 Edge has no ethernet settings like the S8 or other android devices. I need the ethernet settings because I want to connect a OTG USB/Ethernet adapter to build up a connection to my car. My phone is rootet and I have Terminal Emulator.

For tests I write following commands:

dhclient eth0

ping -n 3 www.google.de

I get answers from google so theoretically I can connect to the internet, but google play or samsung internet says no connection? I can ping www.samsung.com and get a answer. I have a internet connection but I think the apps depend on wlan0. How can I set eth0 as main interface? Same for my OBDII apps.

To set a static ip I would use:

ifconfig eth0 <IP> netmask 255.255.255.0

thanks in advance

You'll have better luck asking on xda-developers.
Maybe you can flash a recent lineage os version?

Hi,

on xda no answer yet, I have a Nethunter Kernel and it supports ethernet. I dont like the lineage design, I have TGP.

When I connect my USB/ethernet adapter and type lsusb I see the interface, its a realtek RTL8153 controller. So the phone recognize it, but I need the decisive command to get the phone/apps using eth0.

This certainly doesn't belong in this subforum, it should be moved.

As far as I know Android for phones doesn't have the necessary bits to just work with USB Ethernet, but you may be able to route through the adapter since your device is rooted.

*Edit*
Some phones do have this capability, it's in the developer settings.

You mean RNDIS (USB Ethernet)? I have found this function already, but it doesnt make a difference.

My phone is rootet and the ping command is also successfull, but the phone won't route through eth0. otherwise I would be able to surf or download apps from google play.

Have you disabled WiFi and mobile data?

Yes, mobile and wifi connection disabled, even flight mode. Googleplay, Browser, ... still won't connect. I can ping google, ebay, ... but you have to force the apps using eth0.

There was once an xposed module that presented a fake wifi connection for the apps that required wifi. Maybe you can try that.

Maybe you should create a bridge.

I doubt that would be feasible. Wifi needs to be associated to an AP to be up, and wifi is notoriously difficult to bridge to an ethernet adapter (in the brctl sense), though this seems to proove me wrong: https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... ith-debian

It used to be possible because I've done it before, at least to the best of my recollection. It was a long time ago.

Seems to make a bridge is the easiest solution. ifconfig, ndc create network <netid> dont work yet. But what commands needed to do that?
