Why no EMMC on the HC1/HC2 ?

Unread post by Dr.Methyl » Sun Feb 02, 2020 9:14 am

I wonder why there is no EMMC for the HC1 and HC2 despite they are availaible for the Xu4... I ask because I prefer EMMC instead of sd card, not only because its faster but they are more resistant to corruption.

The SoC only has two highspeed-interfaces, one for Gigabit, the other for SATA. Which of the two would you like to trade in for EMMC?

Actually, ethernet and sata are each connected to a native usb3 bus. The emmc is not exposed, most likely to keep costs and size small. Since they're designed to have a HDD always connected the user can move the rootfs to the disk, for speed/reliability. The cost is - the disk will have trouble going to sleep with an active os on it.
