One question, why can't you save retroarch.cfg from the menu? That's quite an annoyance, as I'd like to set my custom XMB theme, and I lose the configuration everytime I get back to ES..

The only workaround is to mount the SD card on the computer and manually edit retroarch.cfg, which is inconvenient and dry of risky.

Residual VM appears on the homescreen however their is no folder to place the games???

***SOLVED** create a folder in roms titled “residualvm” and add games. After scanning, it finds them. It appears this folder was forgotten upon building the image. However just like scummvm it doesn’t boot into the launcher which kind of sucks as the menu doesn’t show the games full names, whereas the launcher does

I just used a tar file to update from an existing image for the first time, here is the instructions a bit more step by step than whats in the first post.

After update, On the main menu, press button 6 then choose System Settings, Developer and turn off "Use Retroarch RGUI Menu" (unless of course you want RGUI then don't). From inside a game press button 3+4 or 1+x to enter the retroarch menu. Hit b if needed to see the bar with 6 icons. Go to the second icon, select "User Interface" turn on "Show advance settings". Press b and select "On Screen Display", "Onscreen Notifications". Turn off "Auto Scale Graphics Widgets" and set "Graphics Widgets Scale Override" to 2.00x ." Note this is only for updating from an image such as this one, there is no need to do this if you are on a fresh install!

Do these steps mentioned here also have to be done after every update or just this one time?

Does any old usb keyboard work? If so I'll just stop by goodwill haha.

Scummvm works after scanning for games, can we not get it to boot straight into the loader as the games are not listed as their full names, only codes, which is hard to tell which game you want. From within a game I can access the loader which displays the full names of the games. This workaround is a little long winded though, surely there is another way? Also is there a way to add systems to this build? I can’t seem to find the es_systems.cfg to do so. I’d like to add separate homescreen options for Amiga 500,1200 and CD. Thanks

Sorry to interrupt, but which emulator are you using for the amiga systems? I can only get Amiberry to start a game but I have no input and cannot get into any settings. Thamks in advance.

Using Amiberry, and every game I’ve tried, has worked great, apart from Trolls which just won’t get past the initial boot screen. Not needed to ammend any settings yet so haven’t even tried to access the amiberry settings

Thanks, strange that my input doesn't work, I will see if the next update changes anything.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed or not, its really very minor, but I was wondering if there are any plans to have the battery indicator show on screen? Or at least have the ability to toggle it on and off?

I agree, even if it’s not 100% accurate it’s still a better indicator than none at all. I would definately like to see this implemented

/storage/.emulationstation

Here's a link to my .emulationstation folder if you want to check out the settings

https://drive.google.com/open?id=15rT4M ... iJo5sqj3ua

Also, take a look in the themes folder for some custom A500, A1200 and CD32 background images and logos (couple of others such as capcom and sega arcade in there as well)

You'll also have to edit the emuelecRunEmu.sh in /storage/.config/emuelec/scripts to add the new amiga systems for amiberry - search for the amiga section and change it to something like:-

Code: Select all

	"amiga"|"amiga1200"|"amigacd32"|"amigacdtv")
		if [ "$EMU" = "AMIBERRY" ]; then
		RUNTHIS='${TBASH} /usr/bin/amiberry.start "${ROMNAME}"'
		fi
		;;
Ignore the CDTV bit, Amiberry doesn't currently work for CDTV yet.

Had a question about Ports "Cannonball - Outrun Engine". Has anyone able to get this game to run? I am running EmuELEC 3.5. I extracted OutRun Revision B ROMs in the Roms/Ports/CannonBall directory and created a empty file call CannonBall.game with a text ediotr then select the game file to load game. But it does not work

Place OutRun Revision B ROMs in this directory.
They must be named as follows:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
epr-10187.88
epr-10327a.76
epr-10328a.75
epr-10329a.58

The original Japanese release of OutRun featured slightly different tracks
and course ordering.

Optionally, you can include the following files from the Japanese version to
play these alternate tracks:

Is there an “official” way to reset the retroarch configs (main config and also core options) to factory/init values?

If I delete them from the SD does it restore a default config?

yes delete (or just in case just rename) them from /storage/.config/retroarch and they should be reset on the next reboot

@Eyeball37 themes are located in /STORAGE/.config/emulationstation/themes, you can drop themes in here.

Though there are not many compatible with either a 3:2 ratio or a 480x320 resolution.

I've started converting some ES themes, so far I have a working version of SuperRetroBoy, and an almost working Next Pixel theme. When I'm done I'll have to ask permission to their authors to redistribute them.

You should see two partitions then - root and storage. Depending on your linux install, you might have to unhide hidden folders (i.e. .config and .emulationstation are both hidden folders) - try opening the storage folder and right clicking in the window and see if there is a a unhide option. Also, in a terminal window, you should be able to cd into .config even though it might not appear with an ls.

So I did a fresh install of the latest build and everything is great so far except I can't get out of games like I normally do by pressing I & VI twice. Anyone know what keys should be bound to these so I can remap them accordingly or know of a quick fix to remedy this??

Anyone have any help or suggestions to get this working?

Hoping someone can help...

Whenever I launch anything now I seem to have debug txt on screen and at the top it says "Failed to start setup timezone data".

Everything seems to be working though

Any ideas?
This is still happening after a updated install...anyone else seen this?

You changed something in emuelec.conf? System.TimeZone line is to set the time.

system.timezone=Europe/Madrid

Can someone please help me delete the ports from this image.

I have deleted them from root but on boot they are still there!

I also tried deleting through metadata and it deleted, then reappeared on reboot!

I just want them gone from my home screen, and not via the easy method of hide system lol.

Someone knows how to get rid of them, pleaseeeee help 🤪

I just want them gone from my home screen, and not via the easy method of hide system lol.

Someone knows how to get rid of them, pleaseeeee help 🤪
You can just hide that menu selection under UI setting, systems displayed. In fact I don't think they can be deleted. The other option would be to remove that system in the config file but that's also just hiding it. I think they get restored on reboot if there deleted

I can’t seem to find the es_systems.cfg to do so. I’d like to add separate homescreen options for Amiga 500,1200 and CD. Thanks

	"amiga"|"amiga1200"|"amigacd32"|"amigacdtv")
		if [ "$EMU" = "AMIBERRY" ]; then
		RUNTHIS='${TBASH} /usr/bin/amiberry.start "${ROMNAME}"'
		fi
		;;
Ignore the CDTV bit, Amiberry doesn't currently work for CDTV yet.
Hi, my root access emuelec image doesn’t have an option for themes or an emulationstation folder? Any ideas

Ok so I’ve managed to get the homescreen showing separate options for 500, 1200 and CD and have edited the run emu aswell, however the options for 500 and 1200 won’t launch. It appears no emulator is set for them. In the systems config I copied the entry for Amiga changing only the relevant bits, so theoretically the games should load? What am I missing?? Thanks for your continued help on this 👍

**POSSIBLY SORTED** The config/emulationstation/scripts/getcores.sh needed editing to direct the new folders for 500 and 1200 to the emulator cores.

I’m pretty confident I’ve sussed it out by exploring all the available options 😀

They most definately get restored on reboot, it’s very very irritating lol. I wonder which .cfg needs editing to get rid of them forever lol. I have for now just hidden the ports option, a temporary fix until someone can come up with a more permanent solution 👍

Is it possible to change the boot image, and the splash screen when loading a game?

I actually came across these images today while searching all the sub folders in root, I can’t see why changing the image for a like for like image size wise, that it shouldn’t work. When I get a minute I’ll search again and give you their exact location. There is also a cool splash video, but it’s disabled on boot for the moment

Root access STORAGE/.config/splash

Yes, I've seen that. Not sure if they are used...

I'm referring to per system splash images as in Retropie (https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/461 ... ashscreens).

I've read EmuElec's wiki here: https://github.com/EmuELEC/EmuELEC/wiki ... sh-screens. But what should be the name of the default per system image?

So can’t delete the ports games, so I thought I’d try to get them working............... NOPE!

For the love of god I just either can’t find the right bios files, or the ones I do find either aren’t working or I’m not doing something right.

Seeing as these are all open source and not illegal, does anyone have a copy of their working emuelec ports folder that they would be kind enough to share with me, I’ll give you a virtual high five and a valued forum thanks as a reward lol

Can someone share their experience with OpenBOR and SCUMMVM on Emuelec ?
How is the performance ?
I might switch from Batocera only for these two...

OpenBOR games can be troublesome depending on what version they were developed for and what version they are being run with, but I've successfully run many games and have only had issues with a couple.

To get the Ports games to work, you generally need to provide the data or resource files. If you go to Main Menu --> Game Settings --> Missing BIOS (near the bottom of list), it will tell you exactly what files each one is looking for, and where to put them. The programs are open source, but the data/resources often are not (art, images, music, etc.) so those things cannot be provided and are found otherwise.

To get rid of Ports, I'm not sure why the Hide option isn't working or good enough for you, but you could also edit the es_systems.cfg file @ "/storage/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg". In that file, comment out or delete the Ports section:

Code: Select all

<system>
    <name>ports</name>
    <fullname>Ports</fullname>
    <path>/storage/.config/emuelec/ports</path>
    <extension>.sh .SH</extension>
    <command>/usr/bin/bash %ROM% -P%SYSTEM% --controllers="%CONTROLLERSCONFIG%"</command>
    <platform>ports</platform>
    <theme>ports</theme>
  </system>

Many ports use assets that are NOT open source and so they are illegal to share, please do not ask for them here.

Bad news is that the update deleted my Drastic game saves... After the update, Drastic wasn't working anymore, and I had to reinstall it using the scripts setup.

Good news is that I can now do this..

And this!!!!

Stylus now works perfectly with the joystick.

Again, to access the Drastic menu plug in a USB keyboard into the OGA and press M (thanks to @Cg2005).

Going to continue testing the update. Battery indicator is a very welcome new feature.

Thanks Shanti!

"You can update as usual, but since this is a huge internal update, I recommend to backup your settings before doing so!" :)

Drastic should have a default config on next release so hopefully you won't need the keyboard at all :)

Let's update and test it: P. I have the x68000 games in * .m3u (I copied the retropie ... they work like that) ...

When loading, I get the error that I don't load the last disc ... I'm used to using attractmode, in emulationstation I'm lost. What would be the best format?

Scumm works great for me on Emuelec. Just keep in mind, regardless of image you use, some text will be very small and hard to read due to the small screen.
