[SOLVED] The boot logo does not appear after rebuilding the kernel.

Unread post by goodman » Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:07 pm

I'm working with Ubuntu 18.04.3 (ubuntu-18.04.3-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20190910.img.xz)
At first, I just compiled the kernel source to hide 8 penguins. Disable all boot logo options and penguins are gone.
Later, I wanted to put the custom logo and I worked with the link below.

* Building Kernel
kernel version : 4.14.165
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/soft ... ing_kernel
https://github.com/hardkernel/linux

* Replace boot logo
1. img to ppm using netpbm
2. add some codes in logo.c
3. add object in Makefile, Kconfig
4. Enable boot logo options in "make menuconfig"

I tried changing the image size to 1024x600(resolution of my display), 640x480, 80x80.
But the custom logo did not appear. I could not find any problem with my work.
To find the problem, I downloaded the kernel source and compiled it without any modifications,
but the penguin logo did not appear. Of course the standard boot logo options were selected by default.
framebuffer console support, too.

What is the difference between the OS image and the latest kernel sources about boot logo? Both are distributed by Hardkernel.
Or is there a problem with my work?

What happens if you revert your changes?

Sorry. It's my fault.
I reinstalled OS and tested it again, everything works well. Custom logo works too.
I should have tested with the pure os, not the pure kernel source.

I think some of the packages that I installed are causing the problem.
If I find out the cause later, I will share it.

Thank you.
