Thread Idea - List of Working Emulators

Post by Shan »

Hi all,

**** EDIT ****
Here is a link to a Google Sheet where I have listed all the Linux emulators that look promising:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

NOTE: I have NOT validated that they are ARM compatible

The idea is that we can test the emulators in the "Potential Emulators" tab and then populate the "Working" tab accordingly
**** END EDIT ****

I am an avid retrogamer and used to help upload emulators to a Windows-based multi-system frontend, so I have come across emulators for pretty much every retro console and computer. However, I have never really looked for Linux versions.

Does anyone have a list of *working* emulators for Linux that will run on the OGA?

As far as I can tell, there are Libretro cores for the following (there may be more):
  • Amstrad CPC
    Amstrad GX4000

    Thomson MO5
So, was just wondering if we could create a Sticky Thread that lists the system and the working emulator(s) - maybe using Google Sheets or similar?

I will keep searching for emulators, but until I've got an OGA I won't know if they work or not.

mupen64plus runs fine. I've tested it a little while ago. It's not perfect, and depends on the video core you use for performance but you can play some games quite well.
Super Mario and games of that nature run full speed.
Golden Eye for example is not very fun to play.
Conker's Bad Fur Day on the other hand, while not full speed is playable, but that depends on the GPU plugin as well.

Hey Shan, thanks a lot for doing this!

I was working on a spreadsheet to track which emulators/versions were bundled with each of the OS images and how would they perform, so people can decide which image to use depending on which systems they are more interested in. I see you've already built the basic support for this.

Would you consider adding columns or tabs for the different OS images?.
I believe at this time we know we will have Debian Buster, Batocera, EmuElec and RetroArena.

You can see my thread in reddit here:

I know ETA PRIME said Emulation Station was running Debian but he was wrong, it's Ubuntu. Just an FYI for those that watch his videos and find themselves reading this thread.

@johnpdoe - I've added columns to the first tab as requested, hope this is what you meant?

I think it's easier for users to compare when they're all in the same tab??

Let me know if you think this won't work.

I think the reason it's not included is beacuse the device doesn't have enough power to run it.
