Access to NFS share

Post by IgaBiva »

I have installed latest 64bit Android on my N2 and I plan to test some emulators and KODI on it. All of my roms and movies are on NFS share (Synology NAS).

I would like to ask you is there a way to map my NFS shares to some Android folder in a similar way which works in Linux?

I tried to find solution on my own and I found out that NFS must be enabled in a kernel for this. Is it enabled on N2 version?

What can I do here?

Thank you in advance!

I think NFS is not enabled for Android, needs to update the kernel on the next release.

If I'm not mistaking, NFS client for android works, at least in kodi you can access nfs shares.

Have you tried mounting from the command line? I fear the greatest problem will be mount namespace isolation (mounted share is visible only in the mounted program).

In my experience it's difficult to use NFS on Android, it works great from Kodi but I've not found a client that works properly.

I am able to mount nfs shares from my phone the regular way (from shell), but I haven't managed to escape mount namespace isolation...

I will try command line option as soon as I complete Gapps activation - has not worked first time.

If nfs is so problematic, can I map smb share? This would be acceptable to me too

SMB works with Kodi or other apps that support it.

The thing is - most android applications that support SMB handle smb mounting themselves. If you want to mount a smb share system-wide and have an application use it is more difficult in modern androids because of security concerns.

Kodi works and I have access to my shares without problems

I would like to test some emulators too. However, I can only access local sd card which means that I need to copy roms there and this is annoying because of sd card capacity...

Of course, this is not N2/HardKernel limitation but Android one.

I just gave up on this as it seems that there is no way to do it like it is done in Linux...
Maybe I will try again if kernel support will be implemented like tobetter mentioned.

Btw - Gamecube games on Dolphin on 64bit Android are running pretty fine. I have tested couple of them and although there are few stutters once in a while, all are definitelly playable.

I wander why nobody made YouTube video about this as I believe that this is great plus for N2.

2D style GameCube games worked well. But many 3D style games were lagging from time to time frequently even with the Vulkan GPU acceleration. So we didn't make a video. :(

Can you please make a (short) list of games you tried? a flag of near-perfect / very-playable / barely-playable / not-playable would be great.
Please also share your Dolphin configuration and tweaks.

Too much off-topic. Please make a new topic if you don't mind.
