Trying to fix root password using second C2 but...

Post by MajorTom3D »

I am trying to use Ubuntu Mate 18.04 for the C2 to mount another C2 SD card but figure out how to do it since sda1
or sdb2 never shows up under /dev. I chose Mate to allow an easier experience but on thing that shows up with the GUI is the root boot partition.

How does one find and mount a flash drive (SD card) for the ext4 partition so I can use on Odroid C2 18.04? Also, to make sure I can read and write to it so I can chroot to it.

How do you attach the second emmc? Via sd adapter? Running dmesg -w should show you the device name when attaching the device. Most likely it's /dev/mmcblk1p2

I have only been using micro SD cards for the Odroid C2's. So I try using the other C2 micro SD using a multi-card USB adapter. No emmc cards on these boards.

In that case check that the usb adapter and card are seated correctly. Run dmesg -w, plug in the usb reader and show us what you get.

I was able to resolve my issue. I loaded up an Odroid C2 with ubuntu mate desktop posted earlier. I used the Drive graphic utility to show every drive and partition. By clicking on the USB micro SD drive, I was able to determine that the drive could be mounted on /dev/sda2. So I did the following

sudo mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
sudo chroot /mnt
passwd root

And I did an exit followed by shutdown now. Waited until the unit powered down and swapped the Micro SD cards and it ran like a champ using my updated root password.
