Is the disk shutdown script needed any more?

Post by magnum_pi »

Hello. I have two versions of the CloudShell kit: the original one, and the CloudShell 2.

I'm running Devuan, which doesn't have systemd, so the instructions for the shutdown script don't work for me.

I'm wondering if the script is needed any more. The page says:
I think that it needs lots of time to fix that behavior. so I recommend using this script as a workaround
I assume that that means that there was some kernel feature that was not working when the product was released, but I'm wondering whether it has been implemented since then.

I'm running kernel versions 4.14.141+ and 4.14.28+ on my two boards. Both are from the oph.mdrjr.net repository.

Thank you!

Since there is no fw update from Jmicron, you still need the workaround probably.
Did you check the "Power-Off_Retract_Count" number whether it increases or not after each shutdown events?

BTW, I think you can run the HDD parking command just before power-off process in "sysvinit" system too.

I see, thank you. I'll have a look at the SMART info and convert the script for sysvinit, then.

Thanks again.
