latest ubuntu 18.04.3 - boot logo disappears after 3 secs

Unread post by att2 » Thu Oct 10, 2019 7:28 pm

Hello,
I reinstalled my installation of Ubuntu 18.04.3 for my Odroid C2.
What I now wanted to have is a nice bootlogo that stays on all the time until graphical interface is started.
To add bootlogo possibilities, I have edited the boot.ini in /media/boot like this :
...
# Boot Arguments
if test "${display_autodetect}" = "true"; then usb pwren; hdmitx edid; fi
showlogo ${m}
setenv logoopt "osd1,loaded,0x3f800000,${m}"
if test "${m}" = "custombuilt"; then setenv cmode "modeline=${modeline}"; fi
if test "${disable_vu7}" = "false"; then setenv hid_quirks "usbhid.quirks=0x0eef:0x0005:0x0004"; fi

setenv bootargs "root=UUID=e139ce78-9841-40fe-8823-96a304a09859 rootwait ro ${condev} no_console_suspend hdmimode=${m} ${cmode} m_bpp=${m_bpp} vout=${vout} fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 elevator=noop disablehpd=${hpd} max_freq=${max_freq} maxcpus=${maxcpus} monitor_onoff=${monitor_onoff} disableuhs=${disableuhs} mmc_removable=${mmc_removable} usbmulticam=${usbmulticam} ${hid_quirks} logo=${logoopt}"
I also placed the BMP file "boot-logo.bmp" in the /media/boot directory.

This works, and the boot logo is displayed for about 3 seconds UNTIL the darned console output kicks in again, switches to text mode and displays all the booting text, which I want to disable.

Do you have any clue for me how to make the boot logo stay permanent on screen unless the graphical X user interface shows up ?

Ok I pseudo-fixed it by adding
setenv condev "console=ttyS0,115200n8"
(removing the tty1 console)
However, this still only displays the boot logo for 3 seconds, then switches to text mode, then takes another 7 seconds and finally switches to GUI.
Is there any way to prevent the switching to text mode ?

I believe quiet boot is the option you need, not sure how to enable it though.
