Compiling a new Samba server version

Unread post by broken.pipe » Mon Oct 07, 2019 3:20 pm

Hi all,

I would like to use the latest Samba version, because i want to create a Time Server Backup share for MacOS on the hc2. The Samba server under Ubuntu 18.04 is currently at 4.7.6. I need at least 4.8. Is it possible to compile Samba without greater effort (preferably directly as a package)? Or is there a suitable repository?

Best regards!

What if you update the server to use Debian Buster or Ubuntu Disco rather than upgrade Samba?
Not sure, but Samba 4.8 could have a dependency on other packages.
