How the get the Debian Installer on Odroid HC2 ?

Unread post by artoxxx » Sat Sep 28, 2019 4:33 am

Hello,

I have an Odroid HC2.
As I can see, there is a Debian Stretch image available, and I'm using it.

But I'm looking for a release where I can get the Debian installer, because I want to partition (in a clean way) the system at the installation. Then I can put /boot on the SD card, and the other partitions on the HDD. Thats what I did with my Banana Pi and it was working great !

For my Banana Pi, I used these files : http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/dists/s ... rd-images/
But there is nothing for Odroid...

So how can I get the Debian installer for my Odroid HC2 ?

Thanks !

Thanks for your answer !

I tried with both latest Odroid XU4 Stretch and Buster images (ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr/installer/), and I get a freeze on "Starting kernel".
Here is the serial output :

Any idea ?

[EDIT]
I tried with C2, N2, and XU4 images and none is working.

[EDIT 2]
As I can see on Hardkernel website (https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid- ... cloud-two/) : "Any OS for XU4 is fully compatible with the HC2."
So why the XU4 Debian Netinstall image isn't working ?

Thanks for your answer !

Yes I have a serial. I use the odroid usb-uart module kit. Im connected on COM3 with putty (I use windows).
The Odroid HC2 doesn't have any HDMI output.

I have checked the installer and found that it does not even recognize USB storage so your installation would not work for HC2. Let me take some time to test it and let you know later when I get back home.

@artoxxx, maybe you can try out a new installer. I've added to support ODROID-HC1/2.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Gx8Cf ... j5vbzQZdbG

This installer image has a new kernel build which can recognize USB storage.

Before you start to run Netboot installer.
1. You must keep attaching uSD as a boot media although your USB storage has the root file system because U-boot only can be installed to uSD.
2. Also, you must assign the uSD to /boot while performing disk partitioning, otherwise U-boot won't load the boot script boot.scr.
3. You will be asked the kernel version to install when the installer reaches kernel installation, you can select any of them but please do select linux-image-odroid-upstream which will install the recent mainline kernel, currently 5.3.0. This package will keep updating the newer upstream package whenever a minimal test is done.
4. Please aware that this installer is a personal work, not by Hardkernel, myself is trying to maintain the kernel and other packages. If you meet any missing kernel feature or need to get help to use of it, please request the one through another thread.
