N-1 lost hdmi..output...help needed...to fix

Unread post by phaseshifter » Fri Sep 13, 2019 1:19 pm

my N-1 suffered a 22v input..which the buck reg was found to be faulty..however i measured the switch mode that i had it running of it read 36 volts..not happy i tell y`a..

any way did the N-1 have a composite output..??

i have just put it into the to try fix one day..everything else seems to work on the board..although i have not been into it deeply..

the console works i can uart into it.and the command line works so the ethernet works..
.was there a program that allowed you to have a second display of the gui via Ethernet or something..i remember ..um ..kvm or something..

although i would like to fix the hdmi if i could..

i have not had a meter on it or anything..so i may be able to do further testing to see if it is only the hdmi..that is shot...um...it is now on my bench so any help or comments would be appreciated.....thank`s phase .....

Sorry to hear of your mishap...
You can connect to the GUI remotely with VNC. You can setup x1vnc on the N1 via serial/ssh with these commands:

Code: Select all

# sudo apt-get install x11vnc
# vi /etc/systemd/system/x11vnc.service
[Unit]
Description=VNC Server for X11
Requires=display-manager.service
After=display-manager.service

[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=/usr/bin/x11vnc -forever -bg -geometry 1280x720 -shared -noprimary -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -display :0
Restart=always
RestartSec=1

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
# sudo systemctl enable x11vnc
# sudo systemctl start x11vnc
Then you can connect with a VNC viewer to your N1's IP address.

Not sure what you can do if HDMI is fried. You can still use the N1 as a NAS if you need to. Though - as far as I remember the SATA power was directly connected to power input, so you'll need to use a 12V supply...

If you want to part with it, @crashoverride might be interested in it since his unit shuts down randomly...

You guys are awesome! However, I really need a long term solution. So, I am going to try and migrate to a RK3399 board that is in production instead.
