What do you guys do with standard Android Pie?

Unread post by lightsout » Thu Sep 12, 2019 12:02 am

Kind of a random question. I grabbed an emmc with Pie on it, quickly flashed over it because I wanted Android TV. But it had me thinking, what do you do with that sort of OS on a TV.

Use a keyboard/mouse or air mouse?

I thought about using it with the option of a small desktop replacement. Just for light stuff in a pinch.

You can use stock Android with an air mouse/keyboard quite well, been doing it for years.

But you can just as easily sideload Chrome or other non-ATV apps on ATV and use the same air mouse. Been doing that for years also.

Just curious why standard Android on a device like this over Android TV.

I mostly use the Minix Neo A2 Lite, but I have a Rii branded one that works well also.

Depends on what you want, if you aren't using it as a media center then stock Android is the much more useful variant.

I just bought that remote on the right. I'll have to fire up pie and do some playing around.

Do you use it like a sort of small desktop replacement?

Yes, I find Android to be a great desktop replacement since there are applications for just about anything you need to do and it works so smoothly.

Anything I can't do in Android I can do in Linux, so just keep both on the device and switch between them as needed.

@rooted: are you dual-booting? Or running a linux container inside Android?
