XU4 does not start

Unread post by busyme » Tue Sep 03, 2019 2:22 am

I bought one XU4 from you about a year ago. Year ago Ubuntu was installed and it workes fine for a day. Unfortunately, we had to take out SD card for another device so XU4 was disconnected. It was on a shelf not used in original packing. A few days ago we decided to use it in one of our projects - so we did a fresh SD card download image like in a tutorial. Unfortunately, XU4 is showing a constant red light. Nothing more.

Here are the symptoms ODROID XU4 :

- There is "ODROID-XU4 REV 0.1 20170905".
- The red LED remains fixed.
- No other led is showing any signs not even blips. ( waited about 10 minutes )
- TV screen remains black.
- Switch in uSD position.
- Using your original charger.
- PIN 1 and 30 gives 5.02V - stable.
- when clicking "power button" - there is a small noise for a second and nothing happen.
- I have tested with three SD cards: Samsung 32GB EVO SDHC; 64Gb Sandisk Ultra SDXD; 16GB Generic one (fourth was faulty)
- did check for fake SD ( https://sites.google.com/a/rmprepusb.co ... ory-drives )
- low-level SD format with suggested software ( https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ )
- using Etcher and Win32DiskImager
- did not extract images with Etcher

- tested SD cards ( Rasbian with Raspberry PI) - worked fine.
- take out a radiator, turned on - memory element does not heat up at all. Applied new thermal paste put it back.

Any other steps we can help to get the device working?

busyme:

I'm having the exact same issue.

I have an HC2 running Open Media Vault that I purchased in May of 2018 (from Odroid, Inc., who, I see is out of business!)

I've been using the HC2 as a secondary server along with a NanoPi with OMV that I run 7x24.

The HC2 is off 98% of the time and I turn it on once per month to use as a secondary backup server for my laptop. I have a Samsung EVO attached and it is or was a great little server!

When I powered the HC2 up yesterday my monthly backup, I noticed it was acting flakey - I was getting errors trying to mount the drive, etc.

I had some time this afternoon and decided to reflash the OMV image to the SD card. Now I get a quick flash of the green light when I insert the power cord, followed by a solid red light. No blue heart-beat LED showing.

I've reimaged another sd card hoping that would solve the problem and so far no difference.

What's going on?

Did you flash this image with Etcher? Please check the file name carefully.

I think you already did as much as you could.
You board might be damaged by uncertain electrical shock probably.

We can try to fix your hardware but two-way shipping cost must be much more expensive than buying a new one. Sorry about that.
