Can't install OMV from eMMC

Unread post by lzm » Fri Aug 30, 2019 1:28 pm

Hi,

I want to install OMV (a variant of Debian) from eMMC to my H2. So I downloaded openmediavault_4.1.22-amd64.iso and tried Etcher/Win32DiskImager/Rufus to burn it to eMMC. But the problem is, every time it said: "No common CD-ROM drive was detected". What's wrong with it?

I already googled it, but none of them solve my problem. Any help would be very appreciated!

Thanks a lot!
Odroid H2 Rev B, 2*8GB Ram, 32GB eMMC+512GB Nvme+2 HDD, Case Type 1 with I2C 20×4 LCD Module, with OMV 4.1.23

Is not ARM64. It can't work.

Use Armbian Stretch (AFAIK Buster variant is not ready yet), run armbian-config -> softy -> OMV (shameless promotion)

ODROID-H2 has Intel J4105 CPU which is compatible with AMD64.

Flash Debian 9 AMD64 image into the eMMC via USB memory stick.
And install the OMV package on it.

Opps. But automated OMV install will work via armbian-config ... on amd64 it is installing this way:

Code: Select all

echo "deb [arch=arm64] http://apt.armbian.com $(lsb_release -cs) main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/armbian.list
apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 9F0E78D5
apt update
apt install armbian-config

Thanks! I'll try this way tonight. BTW, why can't directly install OMV image? I used to use XU4 and the pre-config image works well on SD card.

Thanks for your help again! I found the problem and it worked. The problem is the eMMC itself can't be used as an installation media, but OS can be installed on it. So I use another USB flash drive as installation media and install OMV on eMMC. The latest OMV 4.1.22 is UEFI bootable.

It is bug somewhere in Linux (at least Debian) Installer. You cannot install to the same drive where installer is located even if installer is on the small partition. But in Windows it works. You can make mall partition, copy installer files there and install to the remaining space on that disk.
