WiFi Module 5A

Unread post by abadab » Fri Aug 16, 2019 11:57 am

I'm having problems with the wifi dongle (WiFi Module 5A).
For some reason I can't change its MAC address:

$ sudo macchanger -r wlx40a5eff39966
Current MAC: 40:a5:ef:f3:99:66 (unknown)
Permanent MAC: 40:a5:ef:f3:99:66 (unknown)
New MAC: e2:0e:c7:70:d3:67 (unknown)
Network driver didn't actually change to the new MAC!!

And I can't set up an access point (AP) on the wifi dongle's interface.
I've tried several ways, most notably with airbase-ng, but it just
doesn't work; and yes I set the dongle's interface to monitor mode first.

And now it seems to not be working at all, which makes it completely useless.
If I try to connect to a network it doesn't do anything and dmesg says this

[78512.249076] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlx40a5eff39966: link is not ready
[78541.244706] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlx40a5eff39966: link is not ready

Which device driver and board do you use?
If you use the WiFi Module 5A on a generic x86 Linux PC, you might need to install this driver.

Try this branch. The driver worked fine on ODROID-H2 x86 board.

I tried it but I'm still getting the same issues.
I've managed to get data working (maybe that not working was a once off thing), but I still can't change the MAC address, nor can I start an AP.

We have no experience of changing the MAC address.
But the AP mode worked fine with the following guide.
