Xu4 power over CON10

Unread post by aaronpycraft » Sat Jul 13, 2019 5:54 am

Hello,
There is a 5V pin on the CON10 header. Can the ODROID XU4 be powered via this pin?
If so, what are the limitations?
The board draws 5 V * 4 A= 20 W
Thank you,

yes it can be backward powered...it`s normally done via the 30 pin connector..
if you check the schematics you should find that they are on the same bus line...

can it handle 4 ams ::: it should do but just remember your by passing the PMIC chip protection and so forth,,if you get it wrong you will fry your board

the standard 4 amp supply will be sufficient to power it.... as would an aftermarket unit...etc..etc...

Thanks for the reply!
There is no 20 pin connector on the XU4, did you mean the 30 pin connector?
Checking the schematic, CON10, pin 1, net P5V0 is indeed connected to the output of a fuse (U5)
However, it looks like the CON10 header pin cannot handle the full 4A current, as each pin is only rated to 1.5 A

Its rated current is 1.5A when the voltage is AC 500V.
So there must more room to handle 3~4Amp at DC 5Volt.

In fact, our CloudShell2 has powered the XU4 via 5V0 rail on the 30pin header.
