Unstable CS2 with two 8TB SMR Hard Disks

I bought CS2 month a ago and it was kinda unstable.

On heavy disk use USB-SATA and ethernet disappear suddenly.
I tested a lot of install/update/upgrade combinations with clean ubuntu image.
It occurs more with odroid-cloudshell + cloudshell-lcd installed + latest kernel, but it happens some time without any install/updated status.

There are two seagate 8TB SMR harddisks In CS2 with ubuntu 18.04 minimal installed in sdcard. It used PM mode to make SW RAID.

:Repro step
1. make clean 18.04 minimal image.
2. apt update & upgrade and reboot
3. apt install odroid-cloudshell cloudshell2-fan -> reboot -> apt install cloudshell-lcd -> reboot
4. apt install btrfs-tools
5. mkfs.btrfs -m raid1 -d raid1 --/dev/sda /dev/sdb
6. mkdir /media/test
7. mount /dev/sda /media/test
8. dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/test/zero.dat bs=512k status=progress

using btrfs raid1 is worst scenario, USB devices disappea in an hour. partitioned/unpartitioned makes no diffrence.
installing only cloudshell2-fan on ubuntu minimal image showed better stablity but it failed btrfs raid1 write test.

While testing different combination, noop disk scehduler made CS2 dramatically FAST and STABLE. and smaller raid chunk made it FASTER !! :o

    Wow that's a lot, I have tried it with HW RAID1 on sda but it doesn't seem to work there, are you using a newer kernel then 4.14 ? Are your problems with disappear USB ports solved or is it still happen ?

      kernel version is 4.14.127-164.
      after 'apt upgrade' from ubuntu-18.04.1-4.14-minimal-odroid-xu4-20181203.img.

      I just got same error, cause by changing /sys/block/sda/queue/max_sectors_kb parameter to 8 while zeroing disk.
      but previous errors/crashs were raised without any input or changes.

      I just started filesystem zeroing/copying test.
      zeroing btrfs/ext4 raid0/1 combination and copy many files to volume from network.

      if this test fails, I'll start my first kernel debugging. :twisted:

        Can you try with only one disk if this happens again, my guess is that some Seagate drives are drawing to much power, because if a drive is making problems then mostly it's a Seagate, I didn't read about disconnects and Western Digital drives

          first and second error logs are from single drive test.
          I'll remove one drive and run again after current test.

          I lost two of three btrfs raid0/raid1 wirte testing log due to power outage.
          The washing machine fried power strp and and breaker worked 8-)

          a week of writing work well and stable, but raid1 showed poor performance of 74.3 MB/s,
          mounting btrfs raid1 with nospace_cache made it to 102MB/s, lost log data.
          I could not saved btrfs raid 0 write log either, but I remember 203MB/s at 14TB of written.

            I detached one disk from CS2 and used fresh ubuntu 18.04 image with only some update.
            It stopped after 2 hours of writing. :evil:
            USB nor /dev/sda was not disappeared but dd stopped after 7388s.

            I'm running single disk test with noop scheduler.
            just passed 984GB write with noop shows +50% performance increase. :o
