H2 Fan Decibel Noise Level

Unread post by NigelM » Thu Jul 04, 2019 4:20 am

Odroid sells a 5V 92mm fan for the H2. How loud is it when running at full speed?

https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/92x92x2 ... sor-tacho/

If you have a decibel meter on your phone, please hold the phone about 30cm (1ft) from the fan. However, if you'd rather just share your experience of "very quiet" or "I definitely notice it when the room is quiet" or a similar statement, that would be very helpful too. Fan noise is important when the H2 will be sitting on the user's desk.

For comparison, the Noctua 92mm 5V fan (model NF-A9) is 22.8 dB at 2000 RPM:

https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-A9-5V- ... ref=sr_1_3

The expensive Noctua fan does not come with the correct connector, though, which would be an additional expense and hassle.

Btw, this appears to be the correct size replacement connector:

Thanks!

I also considered a Noctua because I have a few unused ones, but the small power connector on the H2 is unobtainium :-(
I considered buying the Odroid fan, cutting off the connector and soldering a Noctua to it, so far I havn't done it...
...if you do and succeed, please report back with your experience...

According to their datasheet, it is 27.3dBA.
We will try to measure it with a noise level meter or smartphone app at 2000rpm settings to make a reference.

I also want to know that. And another question is that "default" fan CFM. Do you have such information?
Just bought one Noctua NF-A9 5V PWM. Awaiting my new H2 delivery in next few days :)

Cheaper here : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Noctua-NF-A9-5 ... SwhtlbP1ni

Official Noctua Shop...

Anybody knows if there is an adaptor for this so we don’t have to break some cables ?

There is no adaptor for H2 fan connector but if you have original H2 fan then you can just use ScotchLok UY2 that is included with Noctua fan. Wires have dofferent colors. Check Noctua and Odroid docs.

Received the fan from Austria and official shop.

Here the link if anyone insterested. Looks to be the cheaper as well! Great service.
This is based in Austria, if you are in Europe, is your best bet:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Noctua-NF-A9-5 ... 2711450152

This is premium stuff, but I can say I forced it to start and I didn't even notice it came up. Amazing.

Pictures on my case stopped with detail on the (included in the box) and when running.
You must have the connector from the fan sold by Hard Kernel ,then cut the cable and use their connector.
Noctua's Manua:; https://noctua.at/media/blfa_files/manu ... ual_en.pdf

It includes 4 x 3M SkotchlokTM connectors that you can see on the picture to avoid soldering and stuff. Easy and simple.
Great fun installing it.

Note: always put the fan to EXTRACT air, not to push the air IN!
In this case, you must see the NOCTUA label outwards.

With the iPhone literally over the fan, non scientific method:

0 rpm 53db
800 rpm 55dB
1000 rpm 56dB
1200 rpm 76dB
1500 rpm 80 dB
2000 rpm 85dB

I am happy with it anyway
