Recovering a U3+

Unread post by barbu » Tue Jun 04, 2019 8:51 am

I have been fiddling over a period of weeks with my U3+ and now hit problems but I can't remember exactly what I did that broke it!

My goal was/is to install Ubuntu 18.04 and an up to date version of Docker.

I was previously running Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 on my 'red' emmc 8GB card.

After I broke it, it refused to boot from the emmc card and produces serial output as per the attachment.

I have tried to follow various forum posts regarding recovery but unsuccessfully and it now refuses to read from the microSD card so I can't boot from that. (not sure if it's the cards but i have flashed the 18.04 image on to it and it doesn't boot - solid red light no blue light and no uart output.

Is there any hope of recovery with the microSD card slot apparently now not working? Can I use my XU4 in any way to fix the emmc ?

Thank you for any help.

Flash this OS image into your microSD card and try to boot it without eMMC. It will narrow down root causes.

Thank you. I have been able to boot from both microSD and eMMC card using that image - ubuntu-16.04-mate-odroid-u2u3-20160920.img.xz
(I have used a different machine to flash the image as i was thinking maybe there was an issue with the previous machine I was using)

So I am happy that my U3 is working again thanks!! :D

If I try to boot with ubuntu-18.04-4.17-minimal-odroid-x2-u2-u3-20180730.img.xz on the microSD card it does nothing (solid red light no blue light at all).

I see there are some posts in the U3 Ubuntu forum about the above so I will try to work out how to proceed with getting 18.04 working on microSD and then eMMC.
