Weather Board 2 and ODROID-N2 (noob questions)

Unread post by Moan » Fri May 31, 2019 5:39 am

Hi.
I was going to order ODROID-N2 for NAS purposes (external USB 3.0 hard drives).
Under "COMPATIBLE PRODUCTS" I noticed that there is "Weather Board 2" and I got interested in it.

I'm not good at "hardware stuff", so please forgive me noob questions.
First of all, can I connect it to Odroid N2? I suppose yes, since there are C1/C1+/C2/XU4 tutorials on wiki.
Second question: Do Weather Board 2 contain those cables to connect pins (black, yellow, red, orange) or I have to additionally buy it?
And the third question: Is the installation procedure complicated, or a newbie like me shouldn't have problems doing it for the first time?

The instruction must be very similar to C2.
Anyway, we will make a new WiKi page for N2 + Weather board installation instruction.

There is no cable. You have to buy male-to-female dupont jumper wires something like this.
https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/jumper- ... male-male/

Just follow the instruction and we will help you here if you meet a problem.

We've made a new WiKi page. More detail wires connection diagram will be added early next week.

@lsc1117 @odroid

Thanks for the updated wiki article.
I received my N2 with Weather Board 2 today and thanks to your guide I connected it successfully at the first attempt!

I got a question regarding Jumper Wires: https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/jumper- ... male-male/
They seem to not fit my "ODROID-N2 Case Clear". Is there any solution to mount them (like should I remove this black plastic at the top of the wire), or I am simply supposed to drill some holes in the Case plastic?

EDIT:
One more question. I'm getting the following output:

Code: Select all

======== si1132 ========
Visible : 257 Lux
IR : 18 Lux
======== bme280 ========
temperature : 28.56 'C
humidity : 53.33 %
pressure : 978.40 hPa
altitude : 384.63 m
According to Google Maps my location is at: 296.00 m / 971.13 feet. How accurate is this measure in the Weather Board?
Also, it's currently 22C outside. My room is a bit warm, but 28C looks quite a lot (I'll need to check with a normal thermometer if I find any) . According to "accuweather.com", the current pressure is: 1,011 mb / Humidity 76%.
It's 1 a.m., I turned off all the lights, but visibility is "257 Lux". Is this correct?

You have to cut or drill some portion of the plastic case to mount it.

Please note that if you place the Weather-board near the N2 board, the temperature & humidity might be affected a lot.
To check the accuracy of the BME280 sensor, check their datasheet. https://ae-bst.resource.bosch.com/media ... -DS002.pdf

Thank you, I used a few more jumper wires (connected together), placed it a little bit further and the temperature seems to be 1 degree lower.
Do you know long long the jumper wire could be to not damage / cause wrong results from the Weather Board?

By the way, here's how to log temperature, pressure and humidity on Odroid N2 with Home Assistant:
Based on: https://www.home-assistant.io/components/bme280/
1. Add the user which runs Home Assistant to l2c group (so it can use the sensor):

Code: Select all

sudo addgroup moan i2c
reboot
2. Edit file: /home/moan/.homeassistant/configuration.yaml, add:

Code: Select all

sensor:
  - platform: bme280
    name: Weather Board 2 BME280
    i2c_bus: 2
    i2c_address: 0x76
    scan_interval: 30
# - platform: Si1132
# name: Weather Board 2 Si1132
# i2c_bus: 2
# i2c_address: 0x60
# scan_interval: 30
(The Si1132 is currently unsupported).

4. Restart Home Assistant

5. We can configure http://ip.address.of.odroid:8123/lovelace/default_view
To display current sensors data:
homeassist_weatherboard2_overwiew.PNG
homeassist_weatherboard2_overwiew.PNG (29.4 KiB) Viewed 36 times

6. After visiting http://ip.address.of.odroid:8123/history
We can check the History:
homeassist_weatherboard2.PNG
homeassist_weatherboard2.PNG (75.14 KiB) Viewed 36 times
I hope someone will find it useful.
