Screen sleep time shuts off N2 - how to prevent?

Hi,
I just received my new N2...
I connected a HDMI touchscreen monitor and set the screen off time to two minutes at the Android settings.
After two minutes the display goes off and simultaneously the Odroid shuts down as well.
Is there any setting to prevent the shutdown?
I want to have the behavior that I can touch the touchscreen again to just wake-up the display - The N2 shouldn't power off all the time.

If you don't want it to go to sleep I think there is something in developer options. I had to do the same on my c2s at work. They haven't shut off for over 2 years now

I changed it via Termux editor via connected wireless keyboard, i.e. not from PC via USB adapter.
Commands I usually use (:wq , etc.) did not work out. Sorry, I am a new Odroid user. How should I do it to succeed?

However, the board still turns off when there is no power over HDMI (i.e. when I turn off the TV to which Odroid is connected). Any suggestio?

Since no one mentioned the obvious, I will.
I used the odroid-settings-app to disable HDMI-CEC.
This way, my droid doesnt shut down when I turn off the TV, it may help in your situation, too.

My N2 turns off when screen off time is reached (screen saver is off). But CEC settings are greyed out and seems to be off.
Do you have any suggestions?
Only my monitor should switch to standby not the N2 too...

In odroid-settings all the switches concerning CEC are grey and cannot changed...
Does it mean TV/ monitor does not support it? I will try another one...

Hi tobetter,

again, my problem is that N2 shuts down (with latest release of Android from yesterday) and not CEC at all.
My assumption was, that a CEC setting is wrong, but I was not able to change settings via odroid settings.
I tried it with two monitors which are not capable of CEC:
My 23inch Tocuhscreen HP 2310ti is connected via HDMI to DVI-D,
The other monitor is an 7" Fayetech (easier for development, because in front of my couch, on a desk).
But for CEC, I also tried my Samsung TV (UE55D7090) which has CEC (and is turned on). And there I can change the settings now with "odroid settings". So greyed out means only that monitor is not capable of CEC.

But behaviour is the same with these TVs/ monitors above:
If time for screen off is reached (screensaver is disabled), the N2 switches off the HDMI-signal, but it also seems to shut down (blue and red LED are off). Only LAN-LED is still blinking orange...
Moving mouse has no effect. Also turning on via WakeOnLan fails. I have to disconnect/ connect power to get N2 running again.

I also changed setenv suspend_hdmiphy to "0". On my 7inch display, power is still on then, but N2 shuts down and does not wake up again... With "1" the 7inch changes to standby as exptected.

How can I prevent these N2 shut downs. I only want that my monitor goes to standby because of power saving but not the N2.

A possible workaround might be toggle the screen via an GPIO output. But how can I detect that N2 is not used/ in screensaver mode, and I would also need a programm to modify GPIO-pin...

I also tried adb logcat but only saw many entries so I redirected it to a file, but there seems to be a limit after a few seconds or by size (around 1.4MB). Is that normal?
Which keywords are interesting in "adb logcat"?

I think the problem is why N2 gets into power down state and wake up. If this problem is resolved then you won't need GPIO work. Just wondering if you made an update of Android (20190627) or reflash with Self-install image?
If possible, please do capture the log only when you make screen off and also if you have USB-debug serial board, please capture the logs from Kernel, even adb shell demsg is also helpful.

I checked again that after a WOL-command red and blue lights are on/ blinking for a couple of seconds. But then they turn off again. Screen fails to sync. pinging the N2 also fails.
But I also had no reaction of these LEDs before. boot.ini shows: enable_wol=1
Is RTC-battery involved there, I disconnected it yesterday? But not sure if WOL has really changed.
Just wondering if you made an update of Android (20190627) or reflash with Self-install image?
I updated to the latest Android image by an update from 20190619 via "Odroid Settings" which was offered within Android. 20190619 was the image I installed initially. But the update to the current image 20190627 did not change the behaviour, I had the same problem already with 20190619.

There is an USB-serial board I have for Arduino-programming. I will try to use this and hope I will get some debug output. Do you know if logic-level of N2 is only 1.8V, so I would need an additional level shifter...

I found the right USB-serial-converter and did the following:
Sequence was:
  1. Connecting to DC Power
  2. Booting Android (Image from 20190627)
  3. Doing nothing but waiting for display suspend after 15 Seconds
  4. My 7inch changes state to standby, red light is on, blue is blinking
  5. Mouse move wakes up N2 again (!)
  6. After Android is started, wating again for screen off after 15 seconds, red and blue lights are off
  7. Mouse move show no reaction (all CPUs are shutdown in the log around line 1780...)
  8. Tried to wake up via WOL, red and blue LEDs a flickering, but same state (i.e. CPUs are off again, line 1790 until end...)

Can I get the information if screensaver is active or not via the serial debug interface?
So I could check this and switch monitor on/ off with an addtional hardware...

I have the same problem, but it takes some hours to shut down and I think the time is always different.
I never actually saw it shutting down so far, only the light are off and the Wattmeter is at 0.

pre-used Odroid-N2 , 4GB RAM , Android-card (bought from Pollin.de)

I checked odroid-settings and settings and turned off, what could be done

now it happened, when I turned off the TV (as the headline of this thread suggests.
The Odroid detects through the HDMI-cable when the TV is switched off and joins
the silence (?!?) (sometimes)

Hi gsgs,

I had no such problems but maybe I didn't try it long enough...
If I have screensaver on and monitor never goes to standby, my N2 is stable. But power consumption is awful.
So I will try an Arduino with a relay and a proximity sensor for switching monit on and off because I got no answer concerning debug information nor there is a new android image which might help...
Disadvantage is that monitor needs some seconds until desktop is visible. Disconnecting some of the HDMI signals would be a better solution but I didn't find the right information.

New image 20190719 also seems to shutdown cores, if no screensave is active, but WoL is working now.
So a workaround might be to send a WoL-Request to the N2 - this can done by an ESP8266.

Makes it easier, because there is no need to switch on/ offe the monitor: If no signal is sent, monitor switches itself in standby-mode and wakes up again if N2 is ready from WoL...

Thanks to the developers for the new image. Updating images on N2 is always fun!

is it a good idea to let the odroid communicate with the TV ?
There are all sorts of possible unexpected confusing problems, incompatibilities.
Hard to figure out for the unexperienced user.

I had setting setenv suspend_hdmiphy "0" and used the odroid-settings-app to disable HDMI-CEC. But my ordroid still sleep or shutdown because all led in board is turn off after few hour when TV is turn off.
P/s: I'm using Android PIE (20190801)

Hi raymondle,

I have the behaviour you describe only if setenv suspend_hdmiphy "1" is set: Not only monitor goes to standby but also N2 shuts down. Same issue described here: viewtopic.php?f=178&t=35158

...and still a problem in Android PIE Image 20190812.
