XU4 + Cloudshell 1 hard drive disconnects

Unread post by johnvick » Sun Apr 07, 2019 3:34 pm

This has started to happen regularly. A power cycle fixes it, but it soon recurs. I suspect the blue USB3 cable has developed a fault.

Any tips on fixing this? Is it possible to buy a new USB cable?

It's DietPi but I'm 100% sure it's a hardware problem. I've cleaned the USB connectors with a tiny brush and alcohol and reseated the ribbon cables. So far so good.

some op`s reported that changing out the usb3 cable worked for them ...
i think it may have been the usb3 port laqcour issue...them just the changing out the cable scratched the laqcour of the port`s..etc..etc.

thus they thought the cable was the issue...

only the early model boards suffered the problem..with gunk on the contacts....i`m guessing your board is an early model...???.

as the usb cable does not require you to move or diss/re connect it constantly....so the cable it`self should be ok..

i would have to dig up some hardware to run what you have running..
i`ll try setup what you have running..but i`m guessing your diet-pi op sys is highly modded even for diet-pi...so it may not be possible..

being diet pi op sys ...

lets hope that it was dirty usb3 port issue...

if you want to buy a cable you may have to get one after market on the web..dont think anybody may have stock of it..you could search through odroid resellers..

P.sss....from mem on ubuntu the kernel update fixed the spindown issue..but dont quote me on that..i also mem some code also was a fix..but it may have not been 100% related..

The device is two or more years old and I cleaned off the laquer ages ago. Whatever the reason the problem seems to be due to a flaky connection somewhere. I've looked for a replacement cable but the closest I found was USB 2 and 30 cm long but looks like I don't need one. I wasn't aware of the spindown issue, I think my drives here spin down OK. Kernel is Linux Odroid 4.9.61+ .
