HC2 - USB-UART-Module

Unread post by JensS » Fri Apr 05, 2019 6:59 pm

Hello,

I connected the USB-UART-Module of hardkernel to my HC2 and my laptop (Win7) the first time. I could establish a connection an see the HC2 system boot messages. I could also log in as root.

However, this stops working after ~10 min. The usb/uart-device disappeared from windows. When I tried to disconnect the USB-UART-Module I recognized that it was really hot. After cooling everything down, I reconnect everything but it didn't work again.

* I followed the instructions given in https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... b_uart_kit (exception: The driver has been installed automatically by windows.) Is there something I have to care about in addition?

* In https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... _connector and https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/hard ... _connector Pin 4 of the UART connector is GND, Pin 1 is VCC.
In https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... #schematic Pin 1 of the UART connector is GND, Pin4 is VIO=VCC. Is there a technical issue with the USB-UART-Module?

* Is there a hardware description for HC2 similar to https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/hardware/hardware for XU4? Is the UART connector of HC2 and XU4 identicall?

* I affraid that my USB-UART-Module has died. Is it possible to send me an replacement module?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Best regards,

Jens

If the USB-UART module board was too hot, it could be damaged.
We will contact you early next week.

Hello,

thanks a lot for sending me a replacement module! This module works well in the same setting. The issue has likely been an hardware issue of the adapter I received first. :)

In my first post I mentioned that the description of the UART connector differs in different documents:
https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... _connector and https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/hard ... _connector : Pin 4 is GND
https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... #schematic : Pin 1 is GND
This should be fixed.

Best regards!

Jens

There is some room for confusing between ODROID and UART-board schematic.
We updated the wiki https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... _connector
