Funtoo Devs asking for help updating Odroid Install Guide.

Unread post by lazlo » Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:04 am

The leader of the Funtoo Linux project has asked for the community to help update the installation guides for the Odroid-XU4 and Raspberry Pi boards:

https://forums.funtoo.org/topic/1927-fu ... available/

The original Funtoo docs for the XU4 are a bit of a kludge because they do not build a kernel or device tree. Instead these get copied over from an Ubuntu install. This means that you will be stuck on an out-of-tree kernel that is a real pain to update. It would be great if the kernel and device tree could be built and installed from Portage. I am not sure if there are any license and NDA problems, but if not it should be possible. The default kernel for Funtoo has been changed to debian-sources-lts. This is a 4.9 kernel that is considered "Production Ready" for enterprise and cloud environments. You can find the docs here:

https://www.funtoo.org/ODROID-XU4_Installation

And compare them with the x86_64 install docs here:

If no one has done it I could it in a few weeks. I am busy with my Slackware spin as I recompile everything for the Cortex A15 and Neon.
Take note that I have created builds for the kernel as well as free pascal and lazarus hard float for Funtoo.
