XU4-- NO BOOT, ONLY RED LIGHT

Unread post by stholt5233 » Tue Jan 15, 2019 5:16 am

So, I've had this for a few days and have been trying the different images to see which I liked(mainly for emulators) and it's been a lot of fun. This afternoon I go to mess around again and nothing...it won't boot. All I get is a steady red light, no fan spinning, no blue light, no display, no lights on the ethernet jack...nothing.

I have tried five different images(Lakka, Gamestation Turbo, Unbuntu, Batocera and ORA), two different SD cards(Samsung and Kingston) and used Etcher and Win32diskimager to burn them. Any thing else I can try? I am new to the the whole SBC thing, so maybe I am just missing something.

make sure the boot select switch is set to SD card and not actually switched back to eMMC by accident.

If that doesn't work you need to measure the voltage on 5v rail, it may be the power supply.

I have checked and actually toggled the SD/eMMC back and forth to make sure it is on SD.

Looking at the diagram, I should be able to check Pin 01 and 02 on either connector for 5VDC...is this correct? As I said, I am new to this, so I don't want to risk shorting something by probing the wrong pins.

Yes and be careful not to short it.

I have checked it and I do get 5v at both connectors, actually 5.21v, which measures the same as what the Hardkernel supplied power adapter puts out.

Any more thoughts?

Unless you have an eMMC or UART adapter I don't have any ideas.

I do not...I do appreciate the help. Hopefully someone from Hardkernel will reach out.

Odroid would say flash Ubuntu 18 using Etcher and don't decompress the file first.

Worth another shot.

If the blue LED was not solid-on nor flashing, the SD card or your board should have a problem.

Can you check the md5sum value of the downloaded file?

Did you flash the xz file with Etcher without extracting?

MD5SUM checks out, it matches. I flashed it without extracting, using Etcher, like you requested, on 2 different SD cards, a Samsung EVO and a brand new Kingston class 10 UHS-1. Etcher verifies both cards as flashing successfully. I still only get a steady red light and nothing else, no fan spinning, no blue light, nothing on screen.

I think you did as much as you could and your board seemed to be damaged by unknown electrical shock.

Contact "odroid at hardkernel dot com" with a link of this post.
She will help your RMA process if you purchased the board from us directly.
Otherwise, contact your local distributor/reseller.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
