Is PCIe slot in ODROID-H2 compatible with IEEE1394b interface card?

Unread post by Sean_Lee » Mon Jan 14, 2019 1:00 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to connect FireWire800 interface sensor to a board.
It seems that there is a PCIe slot in ODROID-H2, and I want to know whether IEEE1394b interface can be connected to it.

From what i have known about ODRIOD-H2, in specifications, there is information about PCIe slot, which mentioned as '1xM.2 NVMe slot(PCIe 2.0 x 4, supports NGFF-2280 cards).
So, from that infomation about PCIe slot, is IEEE 1394b interface card compatible with its slot?
The reason why i want to use IEEE 1394b is to connect a stereo camera product from Point Grey Inc.

Thank you, and looking forward to your reply:)

As far as we tested, only the M.2 NVMe storage worked fine.
M.2 SATA adapter didn't work properly. So we can't guarantee the compatibility.

BTW, Is there any IEEE 1394b adapter board with M.2 PCIe form factor?

Thank you for your reply:)

I'm not familiar with the knowledge of PCIe card, so I apply some links for chekcing campability with M.2 NVMe storage slot.
The below link is IEEE 1394b card through PCIe slot, and this is what i want to use
http://www.ioi.com.tw/products/proddeta ... ID=1060090

Furthermore, I found another solution for connecting FireWire 800 cable with M.2(NGFF) slot:) and want to check if it is possible or not:)
The solution is:
M.2(NGFF) slot --> Mini-PCIe --> FireWire 800 port
To do this, an adaptor from M.2(NGFF) to Mini-PCIe can be utilized, and this is a product related link below,
https://globalamericaninc.com/product/commell-mpx-m2e/
And, and adpator from Mini-PCIe to FireWire 800 port(which is IEEE1394b) can utilized, and this product information's link is mentioned below,
https://www.sybausa.com/index.php?route ... uct_id=978

Long story for short, the reason why i'm asking these questions is to connect a stereo camera named BumblebeeXB3 from PointGrey Inc.
And this camera is only available for IEEE1394b interface. I've used this camera with Desktop perfectly but have never tried it with SBC

Thank you for reading my comment and looking forward to your reply:)

Multiple adapters might cause instability and overall system size will be very huge even though someone must test the compatibility first.
Do you think Intel J4105 has enough computing power to handle the stereo camera images in real time?
Refer to our SLAM 3D mapping test with a USB 3.0 stereo camera.

Thank you for your reply again:)

I'm trying to utilize your product, ODROID-H2 because I saw the reference related to SLAM that you mentioned above.
And, I keep trying to use the stereo camera i told, which is only available in IEEE 1394b interface.

I've already seen the YouTube about SLAM with ODROID-H2, and that's why i want to buy it. Just one thing to make sure is whether the stereo camera i have is working on H2 board or not.
So, I found other references to verify if my stereo camera is working or not. The below link is another board that successfully is connected to other card via PCIe slot.
https://udoo.hackster.io/matteodelbalio ... _&offset=0
It seems that ODROID-H2 is also supporting M.2 PCIe slot (Question here, is it M-type or B-type?)
It can be converted to PCIe edge card using a special adaptor, which notes in the link below
https://www.amazon.com/SUNKEE-NGFF-Expr ... 071WF954K/
And finally, FireWire 800(IEEE-1394b) can possibly connected to PCIe edge with this product(which is already mentioned in the first reply)
http://www.ioi.com.tw/products/proddeta ... ID=1060090

I've read your comment, 'Multiple adaptors might cause instability'. But, from I've searched the link mentioned above(about connecting Geforce GTX 1080), is it also possible to connect the stereo camera that i told?
Sorry for asking many questions:(
I just want to make sure that ODROID-H2 is compatible with the adaptors i mentionded and with the stereo camera i told eventually before i buy it:)

Thank you!

It is an M-Type.

As you may know we have no more H2 board at this moment.

We will try to test the PCIe bridge adapter when we start the second batch production in March.
