4K resolution performance

Unread post by audiotechguy » Fri Dec 14, 2018 1:29 am

How well does the C2 handle 4K resolution, is it stable, does it make the C2 run hotter etc, is the hardware able to handle it or is it something that the c2 can do technically but not recommended

Are you referring to video or desktop?

Desktop performance in 4k is not very good. Windows will be sluggish and so will be browser and other applications.

Unless you need 4K video my suggestion is get an XU4, it's a better all around device and is currently on sale for $49.00

Would using a lighter desktop environment be better for performance

We normally use MATE which is already a very light DE, so even if you find a lighter one it wouldn't change much.
The Desktop has no 2D acceleration -> sluggish windows
and the 3D framebuffer drivers for X11 have very bad scaling capabilities -> even 3D accelerated programs like Chromium Browser run very bad the larger the Window is, and 4k is VERY large.
