3d printable case? other cases?

Unread post by tedder » Fri Nov 30, 2018 12:14 am

Got my H2. I'd love to print a case for it- I dislike plex cases for a few reasons. Has anyone designed a case or has it put in openscad?

Alternatively, any other cases on the market that fit? I don't know if this is some sub-mini-ITX footprint or anything.

The form factor of H2 is not compatible with ITX, but you can download DXF files for the cases from Hardkernel site. You could customize your own case with it.

Still working on it. Probably a snapfit cover, you can see one of the screw holes to mount the PCB, and the side facing the lower right has two slots to put M3 nuts in (there are two more on the far side).

Took me a lot of time to design the "outlet notches" piece.

How does the back panel fit ODROID-H2?

That's what I was talking about the 'notches'. That's the piece that sits on its own to the left. I iterated through about a dozen pieces to make it fit perfectly.

Just uploaded it:https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3289428 Odroid H2 Sled

not an enclosure, just a sled. keeps it off the desk and keeps the wires safer.
I have included STEP files for assembly to help others thinking of designing their own.

I like it! It fits a 2.5" drive underneath?

I just printed the last revision of the lid for mine. I'll try to get pics and files up soon.

wow! love it. I'm not going to admit to the acrylic sled I made that used double stick tape to hold the drives. Was trying too hard to have the stack of H2s slide out the back with ethernets in the front for mounting on top of a network switch. This idea of sliding up out the top is way cleaner. one hopefully friendly amendment: put a large whole under the lower disk for added air flow in a stack, and reduce material costs.

edit: perhaps flip the design so the disks are over the CPU's heat sync so one can slide out a node and replace the ram without removing disks.

@boverby That's great. Working a holder for the rtc battery into the standoff nearest it would be the only improvement I could imagine for it. I never like the idea of the battery being able to flop around.

I would love for a new case, I really hate these "puzzle style" cases. I'd be willing to pay up to $50 for a small, solid, non-transparent case with room for me to mount a 92mm fan inside of the case (no hard drive mounts needed).

@cdu13a, I agree. Just after the pictures I used double sided tape to secure it to the base. Wires are just long enough to lay flat under the audio and out of the way.

I think it is somewhere between 1.5 and 2kg of petg when I have printed the last blades.

Well worth it for a nerd like me. :)

Was it a one-piece print or are multiple pieces glued together?

It is a lot of different pieces. Each bay is a single piece plus a small cable management piece on the back and a small tag on the front to indiciate which bay it is.
Each blade consists of a base and 4 walls plus some small other pieces. The rack ears are one piece. Held together by 4 m4 threaded rods with nuts in each end.

You can see exactly how the pieces are on the thingiverse link.

Hi everyone! I've designed a simple 3D printable case for the Odroid-H2 and a 2.5" disk drive.

@564 The case looks great!
I do need to learn cad to change it in order to add a dvd drive salvaged from an old laptop...
Any tips on where to start learning cad, doing mock-ups, etc?

mad_ady: It is a little hard to give advice on learning CAD programs, as there are vastly different approaches to CAD. For instance, I like to use OpenSCAD, which is a program where you describe your models in the form of code. Most other CAD programs use different approaches, but can still be quite different from one another. You could check out 3d modeling videos for different programs targeted at 3d printing on youtube, and see what kind of program you like and then learn more about that specific program.

I use the free version of google software that use for make 3d envarument in Google Maps. The name is sketchUP. It's really easy 3d software to start with to learn how to make 3d modular. It's not build for 3d printers but it can be modifying so it can. Today I did the first print on my 3d printer.

It's much to learn here. For instance the lines is not gluing togather so it faking apart easy.ImageImage

This is the case I'm using for now.
Has a cutout for the fan and ir receiver.
Ventilation works surprisingly well across thw whole case and its about 35' at idle.
It fits 2x 2.5 inch HDDS and a ir receiver.
Its good for the environment and cheap too.

I'd guess you need more heat on the bead, or on the nozzle for at least the first few layers.

I was in need to lower nos Abit more. That fix almost everything. Now I test to print out a case for raspberry pi4. Comeout pretty okej for the first product. I need to figure out the problem with filiant rising up from the bed.

Also need to learn more in drowning in 3d.ImageImageImageImage
