[Solved] Kodi now crashes the whole system

Unread post by ledroide » Sun Oct 28, 2018 11:30 pm

Hi there,

I tried to launched kodi. At first, when lauching from command line, I had the message that libGLESv2.so wasn't found. O nthis forum it was recommended to update/upgrade all packages.

After upgrading and rebooting, when lauching Kodi I had this message :

Code: Select all

~$ kodi
/usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/kodi/kodi-xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
/usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/kodi/kodi.bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/kodi/kodi.bin: undefined symbol: eglGetDisplay
On this forum I found a thread about it, so I tried to solve it this way :

Code: Select all

apt install --reinstall mali-x11
Now, after reboot, kodi launches its splash screen and immediately crashes the system.
Then my sytem reboots and fixes filesystem lost inodes every time.

What I have also tried :
- apt purge kodi ; apt auto remove ; apt install kodi
- rm -r ~/.kodi
- search for any strange line in xorg logs and syslog, but everything looks normal. I guess the crash leaves no time to the system to store any log.
- reinstall mali-x11 again

Some information about my system :
- Odroid-C2 with hifi shield
- lsb_release -d : Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
- Package: kodi-bin Version: 2:17.7+hk2-odroidc2ubuntu19
- Package: mali-x11 Version: 20180710-r6p1-10
- Package: linux-odroid-c2 Version: 3.16.60-27
- Linux 3.16.60-27
- apt list --upgradable -> none

Any idea ?

I freshly installed "ubuntu-18.04-3.16-mate-odroid-c2-20180620.img" this morning.
And I'm updating the system with new 330 packages to reproduce the Kodi issue now.

Update: I've tested a few 4K videos with Kodi after the system update and there was no issue.
My kernel version is 3.16.60-27 too.

Can you try "es2gears" on the command line and check "kodi" log file?

es2gears output looks normal

Code: Select all

~$ es2gears
EGL_VERSION = 1.4 Linux-r6p1-01rel0
vertex shader info:
fragment shader info:
info:
296 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.046 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.000 FPS
There is no file like $HOME/.kodi/temp/kodi.log

GPU driver configuration looks fine.

Can you try to run Kodi with "odroid" user instead of "root"?

I've tried this 3840x2160 4K HEVC/H.265 test video and C2 Kodi could playback very well.

It is really hard to know which files were corrupted in your system.

Solved.

Your were right : filesystem had been corrupted somehow.

Code: Select all

sudo touch /forcefsck
reboot
After rebooting :

Code: Select all

sudo apt install --reinstall kodi fonts-roboto fonts-roboto-hinted javascript-common kodi-bin kodi-data libcrossguid0 libjs-iscroll libjs-jquery libmicrohttpd12 libssh-4 libtinyxml2.6.2v5 python-olefile python-pil mali-x11
sync
reboot
This had solved the crash issue. Kodi now runs and plays movies.

Thank you very much for helping.

Serge

I'm always reluctant to install updates on a working system, because they invariably break stuff in utterly stupid ways, or remove functionality. But I made the mistake of allowing an update on one of my C2s, and ever since I've had the same problem: start kodi, a few seconds later the blue light flashes and the device reboots. I figured if I wait long enough a future upgrade will fix it, and I don't use it that much at the moment, so I just ignored it until now. Yesterday I decided to try again. Updating didn't help, but when I logged in it said there's an OS release update available, and after finding this thread and a post above indicates that 18.04 is working OK, I did "do-release-upgrade" as suggested ... it said something like "we suggest not doing this under ssh", so I went and did it locally, on my TV; i.e., in a terminal under X11 -- it didn't warn me that was a bad idea, but it turns out it was: at some point, the screen went to a blue/green gradient, the upgrader was obviously waiting for me to type something, but there was nowhere to type it, and it has screwed the existing OS -- now it won't boot (boot log says "systemd: failed to fully start up daemon: Protocol error // [!!!!!!!] Failed to start up manager: freezing") :( :(

What do I need to fix it? Presumably the "USB3.0 eMMC Module Writer"? (What's that about not being able to access the hidden boot blocks? Does that mean I can't do a from-scratch OS install on it?)

Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 doesn't work well.
So you have to freshly install the 18.04 image.

Yes, you need the USB 3.0 eMMC Module Writer or an Adapter board.
