no network connection after reboot

Unread postby Rich Mathiasen » Sun Sep 16, 2018 5:42 pm

I got a hc2 and want it to use it as a nextcloud, but am having difficulties: when I boot up the device for the first time I connect by ssh and update/upgrade the system and configure the harddrive to automount with fstab. After rebooting the hc2 seems to boot normally, but I cannot ssh into it. Pinging the device result in the message host is down. I tried it with several different network cables and sd-cards and tried both the ubuntu 18.04 xu4 mate and minimal image with the 4.14 kernel. The powersupply is the official one supplied by hardkernel. Can anyone help me out with this issue?

Most likely there's a problem with the fstab entry and the system waits for a disk it can't mount. Is the disk formatted? Can you mount it manually? Show us your proposed fstab

You are right; it is something with fstab. After making a fresh install with no external harddrive connected, ssh and networking was working normally. My harddrive is formatted as ext4. here is the fstab line:
Code: Select all
UUID=8c436759-09af-49e1-aac8-f7c344e76d10 /media/WD1TB ext4 0 0

You're missing the options on the fstab line. Try running these commands with the disk attached:
Code: Select all
blkid | grep 8c436759
ls -ld /media/WD1TB

If you can mount it manually, try the following fstab line:
Code: Select all
UUID=8c436759-09af-49e1-aac8-f7c344e76d10 /media/WD1TB ext4 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 0
