odroid-xu4 ubuntu-18.04 KVM kernel runs half the cpus

Unread postby tkwinfo » Tue Sep 11, 2018 5:25 pm

Hi,

I follow the wiki,
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/application_note/software/kvm
and have changed my odroid-xu4 ubuntu-18.04 (20180501) kernel to enable KVM. Now, the "system monitor" seems always show that only 4 cpus are running.

Does the KVM kernel configuration use only the 4 A15 cpus? Or even the original 18.04 kernel uses only the 4 A15 cpus?

With reference to this discussion,
https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=28177, does using only the 4 A15 cpus give a general better performance?

Thanks.

Oh, I may have made some mistakes.

When using the 18.04 KVM kernel, the "system monitor" shows that cpu1 - cpu4 have a very low utilisation and I mis-interpreted that they are not being used at all. When I run the "top" command I find that they have a somewhat "0.x" usage.

And when I turn back to the original 18.04 kernel, I find that all the 8 cores are being utilised.

But it seems that the 18.04 KVM kernel has a very high preference to use cpu5 - cpu8 which I think is the 4 Cortex A15 cores.
