Can you elaborate what they are used for?

I've used ramdisks for fast access to binary or other files or /tmp etc...

uname -a
Linux hc2 4.14.66-134 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 23 00:47:40 UTC 2018 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

free -m
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 1994 451 45 45 1498 1396
Swap: 0 0 0

As you can see no swap is defined on my default odroid-hc2 install

This explains it

https://askubuntu.com/questions/703576/ ... ram0-ram15

They don't actually use memory unless you write to them.
