Yes, I'm quite sure. It runs fine on my ODROID-U2 (JB 4.1.1)!

No. At least I couldn't watch any 1080p video with XBMC. But MXPlayer plays most blue-ray 15Gb rips with software decoding. But it can't play full size 1080p blue-ray disks. As for hardware decoding, may be I'm doing something wrong, but it didn't work with streams from satellite TV and produced junk with blue-ray rips. But it did work for lower resolution channels.
P.S. Interesting fact, that deinterlacing im MXPlayer does not seem to affect framerate. So satellite channels can be watched with it.

One thing that I've found on MX Player is that if you enable HW+ on its settings the HW decoding becomes quite awesome..

I'm quite sure odroid-u/x2 will be capable of showing 1080p in the future if not already, it ceetainly has the horsepower. Xbmc devs are working on hw accel as we speek. I heard there should be support in some builds for the exynous already.
Try the xbmc forum for more detailed info.

The ODROID Android images support HW video decode of h.264 (I think they even support high profile, which means that just about any h.264 file should be decoded just fine in hardware).

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the X2 supports audio output via HDMI... only video... which means that you cannot get Dolby Digital or DCS passthrough to work. If this is true, you will only be able to play files that have a stereo track or support audio downsampling. You will have to use the headphone jack to get the audio output.

I really hope I'm wrong about this. I also really hope the HDMI PHY on the ODROID boards does support audio. If it doesn't, then I bought something that will be fun for playing with from time to time, but is utterly useless to me as a media player... which is what I bought it for.

Matt,

It does support audio over HDMI and its working very well.

It wasn't working on ODROID-X times using the kernel 3.6.

I have odroid x2,u2 and rasberry pi, i use rasberry as xbmc extender I think it rasbmc plays well because it is a standalone version were as the android version is not as stable and also has android running in back ground

I can get sound from hdmi but not dts and dolby from movies played in xbmc

mxplayer plays larger 1080p movies much better then xbmc

but xbmc has so many network and storage options

maybe standalone linux version would work better then android xbmc

So is there a way to choose the HDMI for audio output on Android? Or does it just not work in 4.0.4?
