Smooth skip

Unread postby bbolin » Wed Aug 08, 2018 12:31 am

Hello All,

Been struggling to get a nice smooth skip working on my setup. I get the same result from either mceusb remote or keyboard

It's watchable, but jerks and tears when skipping. Think I've had other builds where this didn't happen

My setup is an Odroid-C2 ---> Denon AVR-1312 ---> Samsung UN55D6000 (55 inch LED)

Any input would be appreciated

Odroid-C2
Kodi 17.6
Libreelect 8.2.5

Bypassing the receiver fixes the tearing and jerkyness. But that isn't what I want

Your Denon receiver doesn't support HDMI 2.0.
So it can't handle 4K video output probably.

Not doing any 4K only OTA broadcasts (1080I/720p/480SD). Think it has to do with EDID

If I toggle system/display/resolution
1080p to 1080i things get fixed. At least until the next boot

I've also change things in boot.ini (setenv hdmimode "1080i50hz") pretty much the same result(tickle)

I've seen this on Ubuntu using KVM switches. The fix was to nail resolution
/etc/modprobe.d/drm-kms-helper.conf
options drm_kms_helper edid_firmware=DP-1:edid/1920x1080.bin

The clue to this was when I had to adjust the screen size within the TV(overscan)

Don't see this option in Libreelec

I thought your TV is 4K/UHD. But it was wrong. :(

The drm-kms option is available on the XU4 platform only.

Try our latest Ubuntu 18.04 Mate image to narrow down root causes.

Need this for Libreelec. Front end for tvheadend running on hc2. HC2 is fantastic. Replaced a MythTV backend that's been running for 15 years. With the money I save in power I could build HC2 clusters :)
