Zswap?

Unread postby alpe » Sat Aug 04, 2018 10:58 am

Is it possible to add support for Zswap?
Now the C1 uses Kernel 3.10 and Zswap support starts on 3.11.
I know kernel 4+ is missing a lot of drivers, so its not practical. But 3.11 or 3.11+ is not "possible" too?

Kernel 3.10 comes directly from AmLogic and has undocumented patches to get certain hardware components to work properly such as GPU, VPU, etc..
You can't just switch to another Kernel, as you can not merge changes from the 3.10 Kernel to the 3.11 Kernel as you don't know what exactly was changed, or what base version of Kernel 3.10 AmLogic used to create a diff from it.
So it makes no difference if you go from 3.10 to 3.11 or 3.10 to 4.xx as you don't know what is needed anyway.

Anyway ZRAM is available for Kernel 3.10, and it's not that different than ZSWAP, except that it does not require a real swap partition (but can use it as well).

In theory you could try to graft the zswap module code from 3.11 on top of 3.10 hoping that there are not a lot of fixes to be made...
