Replacement LCD

Unread postby nmart » Tue Jul 10, 2018 7:03 am

Despite all the warnings, I broke my LCD on installation. How can I get a replacement? (2.4inch 320×240 TFT LCD (SPI interface))

At this moment, we don't sell any spare part.
We may need a couple of weeks to prepare spare parts kit.
- LCD
- Battery
- Mechanical parts (plastic shells, buttons, switch, silicone rubbers, speaker, LCD cover and screws)

Meanwhile, I will try to find a way to buy a spare LCD.
Did you purchase your GO from our web-store directly? or any local distributor?

My LCD also broke on installation, even though I handled it with the usual care. The plastic clamps of the case are a little too stiff to get it in without bending it.

I ordered from https://www.hardkernel.com

It sucks if you broke the screen, although this is only the second complaint I've heard out of all the devices Hardkernel has sold so I'm not sure it's an issue with the case.

I get that it's extremely frustrating, as odroid said he is working on a source for replacement parts, the screen will not be expensive but shipping is likely more than the screen.

I would likely order another unit and a replacement screen, so I can fix my current device and build another one for a friend. Maybe two replacement screens... haha
I really hope you manage to have these parts for sale in a few weeks that would be terrific!

And yeah it totally sucks to have a broken screen but I get that it was my fault. I just didn't think it was that delicate, and I assumed I was handling it with enough care (I put together PCs and electronic devices since I was a child, not like it is my first time to do this)

I own a workshop for mobile phones and notebook repairs.

And I had a lot of doubt pushing the screen that hard into the case. But after that, I was lucky that the screen really fits well and there is not much room for dust between the screen and the housing.

So I think there is really a high risk to brake the screen - as mentioned in the tutorial.

But this seems to be necessary for the incredible high build quality of that cheep Gameboy

I received mine directly from hardkernal, after a slight customs delay. I will admit operator error in breaking the LCD, I had it slightly misaligned and pushed too hard.

I would just like to say that I did follow all the directions and was extremely careful putting the screen in and I was really afraid to crack it, but was able to get it in after a couple tries. Might be worth looking into making it easier to insert the screen without breaking it. While it's in there nice and snugly, I had to try a few times and there's a speck of dust and a tiny part of a fingerprint on mine and there's no way I'm going to take it apart and clean it and risk breaking it.

Perhaps somebody can video himself while assembling the unit and post the link on the wiki.

Some of his comments are incorrect (like the FAT requirement instead of FAT32) but this will do.

Because the LCD screen was a customized module, you can't buy a fully compatible one.
Sorry about that.

@NyKO,
You can order ODROID-GO from our web-store.
https://www.hardkernel.com/main/shop/go ... hp?lang=en
We've shipped many ODROID products to China from Korea every month and there has been no critical shipping issue so far.
