Does XU4 have exposed NMI (non maskable interrupt) that can be leveraged for reset?

No. There is no NMI input pin.

Consider using WDT.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will any of the above suggestions work on android 4.4.4?

RTC worked. If you issue this command on the terminal and turn it off, the system turns on automatically after 100 seconds.
echo +100 > /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm

But, we need to change some kernel parts to enable the WDT feature.
We will try it if you can give us several days.
