OMV + Docker + Pi Hole

Unread postby cadelle » Thu May 10, 2018 10:54 am

So I am trying to get PiHole running on my xu4 with the latest version of OMV. I installed the docker add on and was also able to get the pihole image but I can't get it to work. I am trying to follow the instructions I found here https://forum.openmediavault.org/index. ... -01-09-18/ I realize that these instructions are not for the same image of OMV I'm using but I thought it would get me to where I need to be. The spot where it is telling me to click on the Networks tab and the Create button. In the docker service of my OMV there is no network tab. Does anyone know where I can find some instructions to get pihole working in docker on OMV

You can run pihole without docker as well.

Is there a reference somewhere to instructions?

Everything I seem to try to get to work on these boards is a nightmare. I am really wishing I would have went a different route...

Tried that and lost my ability to access OMV by the web GUI. Even after removing pihole still cannot access the web GUI. The box itself is working fine as i can putty to it and access the shares and such with other machines on my network. I'm guessing this has to do with port 80 access being changed by pihole and part of the reason I wanted to stick pihole in docker, in hopes it wouldn't mess with everything else running. Any ideas how to get OMVs web working again?

SSH in and change the OMV port.

I was thinking the same thing actually and in my search to do so I came across reference to a first aid command: # omv-firstaid

Problem is I am being told that command can't be found. Is this version of OMV missing that? Is there a place I can pull it from via the CLI? I will continue to explore other ways to accomplish this but most things I've found point to the firstaid command.

Thank you for your continued help rooted.

If you can't use that command it leads me to believe you may have a semi broken installation. I had this happen to me the first time I installed OMV, it didn't install correctly but was mostly functional.

I reinstalled and everything that was wrong magically cleared up.

I have pihole installed on my omv and even nextcloud. For me the simplest solution was to move omv to port 8080, run pihole using its lighthttp on port 88 and make nextcloud run on the normal nginx port 80/443
You just have to change the ports in the configurations.
omv-firstaid is available on my system though.
