C2 + HiFi Shield2 + 4K + Kodi standalone: what configuration

First, thanks to the devs for all the good work they've done.

I come here to ask your advice and to get feedback from users.

I have an Odroid C2 equipped with HiFi Shield2 sound card. The C2 is plugged on a IIYAMA 4K Monitor. I also purchased the hardkernel IR remote control.
I also use a TV headend server running very reliably since years on an Archlinuxarm Dockstar booting on NFS with 2 USB DVB-T sticks.

I haven't been able to have a reliable, stable configuration to use my C2 system:

- the HiFi Shield2 sound card works great on Volumio, Ubuntu, diet-pi, Archlinuxarm
but it does not on Libreelec which uses an Android kernel (modules are unavailable and I don't know if is possible to compile them from source)
BTW, I would like to thank the writer of the following script to install easily the modules and systemd file : viewtopic.php?f=118&t=24415

- the 4K playback with Kodi works quiet great on Libreelec but not on Archlinuxarm (latest kernel used, dropped HW mali acceleration), not on Ubuntu minimal with fbdev (even with a kodi user with the rights permissions and groups), lags on Ubuntu mate or sometimes screen freezes.

- the IR Hardkernel remote control works out of the box on Libreelec, Ubuntu but not on Archlinuxarm

So if someone has the same hardware configuration: C2+HiFi Shield 2 + Kodi + IR control remote running smoothly, I'd be glad to follow his advices.

Right. LibreELEC Kernel has no HiFi-Shield 2 device driver.
You might need to port "snd_soc_pcm512x" and "snd_soc_pcm512x_i2c" drivers from Ubuntu Kernel.

BTW, did you try Kodi-fbdev on this minimal image?

LibreELEC on the ODroid C2 only ever worked good because of the ongoing constant unofficial community support from Raybuntu (and a few others like adamg).

He and 4 others including adamg moved onto their own distro called CoreELEC (which you'll find on CoreELEC.org) from which they will merge down useful commits from LibreELEC master (not fully sure if that's always true but looking at Git it seems like it). They have been shown to be very helpfull, and I'm pretty sure if you actually open an issue within their GitHub repo and ask them nicely to include the driver they'll see what they can do.

On the bottomline this is also why they moved to CoreELEC - since LibreELEC itself wasn't progressing like they wanted, badly managed, badly versioned, many stones thrown in the way and the like from what I got inbetween the lines reading their posts.

Bottomline of the story, use CoreELEC for Odroid C2 (and other AMLOGIC powered devices featuring S905, S912, LePotato) if you want proper support, but keep in mind - it's based on leila and kodi 18 so it's still in its early stages for now.

One thing they're doing is they're patching their kernel for better performance, stability and missing drivers for the devices they're officialy supporting (like the ODroid C2).

Maybe you are already on it and just didn't notice, in that case forget most of my text (if only for the background) and see their GitHub issue page for filling a request for the driver.

Cheers! :)

Thank you very much for all your comments.
I''m going to follow each of your advices.

And I do thanks again the devs for their good work regardless of their teams because we can enjoy free software systems on our small machines. I don't complain. I have to deal with the small inconveniences. And you're helping. Thank you.
