@Zeppelin500

As for the python error, you can try this:

/usr/lib/python3.5/weakref.py

line 109: def remove(wr, selfref=ref(self)): replace with: def remove(wr, selfref=ref(self), _atomic_removal=_remove_dead_weakref):

line 117: _remove_dead_weakref(d, wr.key) replace with: _atomic_removal(d, wr.key)

Hi Maveric,

thank you.
the weakref issue is known at omv. The fix is:

Code: Select all

mcedit /usr/lib/python3.5/weakref.py

Zeile 109 von:
def remove(wr, selfref=ref(self)):
nach:
def remove(wr, selfref=ref(self), _atomic_removal=_remove_dead_weakref):

und Zeile 117 von:
_remove_dead_weakref(d, wr.key)
nach:
_atomic_removal(d, wr.key)
I have cleaned the boot directory and now 33MiB from 70MiB free.

Now without a failure. Your Stretch with OMV 4.1 and tvhaedend.

Thank you again!

EDIT: @AreaScout: Thank you, i found the same

Hi,

First thank you for you work.

I've try do raid1 but i've this error kernel:

meaningless after creating array
mdadm: Note: this array has metadata at the start and
may not be suitable as a boot device. If you plan to
store '/boot' on this device please ensure that
your boot-loader understands md/v1.x metadata, or use
--metadata=0.90
Continue creating array? yes
mdadm: unexpected failure opening /dev/md0

root@debian-stretch:~# modprobe raid1

good question, works on my side.
Can you try updating to the latest Kernel 4.14.87+ and see if that changes anything?
I tested it on Kernel 4.14.73+ and 4.14.87+ in both cases modprobe raid1 works perfectly fine.

Code: Select all

Nope, it has some issues with the file /boot/exynos5422-odroidhc1.dtb, but that's no big deal, just delete it and when you update the Kernel it will be recreated.
In fact, everything inside /boot/ except for the boot.ini can be deleted, if need be, and will be re-created when updating the Kernel :)

exynos5422-odroidhc1.dtb and exynos5422-odroidxu4-kvm.dtb were missing in my "cleanup scripts" so these two have to be removed manually.
The next update will fix this, but this will happen once again but after that it won't happen again (scripts are executed BEFORE the update is installed, so the next update will fix it for the update "after that"... kinda complicated to explain)

the ODROID XU4, is a armhf device and not an X64, there is no X64 images for the XU4.

X64 is PC, this is ARM.

If you are asking if this is ARM64 it is not, the Exynos 5422 is 32bit only.

It will format a HDD/SDD and prepares it for the use with LVM and copies the rootfs on the HDD/SDD.

SD cards are often very limited both in size but also in lifetime the more you use an SD the slower it gets.
This may take months or even years, but if you use an SD card very extremely it can already after some weeks.
eMMCs do have this "wearing" as well, but it's not as bad as it is on SD cards.
HDDs don't have this issue. You can easily connect a 1TB HDD and use it for many years under a lot of stress.

You still need the SD card to boot (bootfs with boot.ini and such is still required to start the system) But the rest of the SD card (the former rootfs) can be used for other things if you want this.

How should you do what exactly? Use the SD card for other things, or how should you put the rootfs on HDD?

And i give the new user root rights
This means the user is allowed to use the "sudo" command to run commands that require root privileges.
It doesn't mean he is root all the time.
For example:

Code: Select all

apt install clementine
will fail as the user has no root permissions, but you can run:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install clementine
as the user has the right to use the sudo command.

There are different ways to set an IP fixed.
If you use command line only you can alter /etc/network/interfaces and set a static IP for your ODROID (please search on google how to do so search for /etc/network/interfaces and you should find plenty of guides)
If you're using a Desktop like MATE you have the network manager installed, and can configure your network by right clicking the network symbol and configure your network this way.

What can i run on the memory on the board?
When i move to the os Xu4 menory..
What do i have left? CAn i run there a lot of other stuff?
Or is the memory not so much?
Not sure if I understand you correctly, it sounds like you want to move the OS to the RAM instead of running it from SD/eMMC.
The system has about 2GB of RAM (a little less after Kernel is loaded).
if you move the entire OS into RAM, you probably have about 1.5GB RAM left.
Depending on what programs you install probably even less than that.
I'm not a fan of running the OS in RAM but that's your decision, but I don't even know how you would do this.
Not sure what you consider "a lot of other stuff", but 1.5GB (or less) RAM is not much.
When you start with things like apache or mysql server, then that's gone before you even stared to run anything big.

Yes, that probably means that "sudo" is not installed yet, it is automatically installed if you install a Desktop, but you can simply install it and the command should work with your user as well.
Let me know if not.

Hi,

I am reviving this issues now that I have 6 server down after a full upgrade. I managed to have those server running without a problem. Employee did a full upgrade and they are not booting any more.

Does the new image has problems with Western Digital HDD? I posted the same issue before without a solution from you and decide to keep old image on the servers.

I can say with confidence that the image has problem. Here new update on this. After the servers went down I try to fix my cloudserver because is the only with HDMI port the other I am not able to remote login.

I transfer the system manually a few times with the same result stop at random: crg ...... I do not remember how many times. I decide to use setup-odroid even I not much familiar with LVM, thinking that I was the problem, but guess the process also failed at the same location unable to load sda1.

I was able to have the cloudserver up and running with the old image.

Any Ideas> also, How to fix other server I need the data on the HDD.

Kind regards,

Al

Hi,

I think I found a solution for this. I added rootdelay to boot.ini. I am able to upgrade and reboot. I will add tho the other server latter today. The cloudshell is operational.

There was recently an update of the Kernel, which caused some issue during update which needs some manual fixing.
Two .dtb files were not removed automatically and for this the Kernel update failed.
Once these files are removed manually the Kernel updated succeeded. If your users restarted the system, with a failed Kernel update, then yes, this could result in a system that doesn't boot anymore.
But this also would mean that the users ignored the warnings that the update failed.

I'm not aware of any issues with Western Digital HDDs, and it's unlikely the Kernel has issues with a specific vendor.

The problem with the output on the screen is that it doesn't show the actual issue with the system.
The output "random: crg" doesn't give any hint of what the real issue is, it's just the last step that was output on the screen, but not necessarily the last step that was performed, not the step that caused the issue.
The only reliable information about what could be the issue is the output of UART via serial console, this is the only output that caches all the steps that the system performs, including the errors that might pop up in the background.
Most of the time when a system doesn't do anything anymore, on the UART you can see that the system booted into recovery initramfs and waits for user input.

It is really hard to figure out what could be the issue.
I understand that this is frustrating, but the information I have are inconclusive to create a diagnosis.
I'm using several images running on Debian which have HDD connected, in fact most of my ODROIDs run off HDDs as I can't store all the data I need on SDs or eMMCs.
I run Owncloud as a cloud service off my ODROIDs for several years now, I run a backup server that backups several ODROIDs with a 4 TB HDD connected.
I have a Cloudshell 2 running, with 2x 3TB HDDs. So generally this is working.

Why exactly your setup is currently having issue is something that I have a hard time figuring out.
I would need more logs and access to boot.ini, Kernel files etc. to see what could be the issue.

You can start by showing me the content of your bootfs and your boot.ini again.
Having access to the syslog would be good, even better would be access to the output of UART as this is most likely the only conclusive information what could go wrong.

This could indicate, that the HDD actually have issue to boot up fast enough. Which is strange, as the OS normally waits for several seconds for the HDD to start up.
I see this on my systems as well, but never had to add rootdelay.

Hi,

The old image on the system works fine no problem booting from HDD but as long I upgrade the image cause the problem, looks that the upgraded image did not wait until HDD is ready but adding the rootdelay fix the problem.

One more question , editing boot.ini in another system should work fine? or I need to update the UUI and boot from sd and do the process again without formatting HDD to preserve data on it?

Thx for you reply

If rootdelay is the only thing that is required to fix your issue then yes, editing boot.ini should be all that is needed.
I don't think there should be any requirement to format HDD again.
There is always a way to use an older kernel instead, or changing settings or something. If the system booted from HDD successful at one time. There shouldn't be any need to format the HDD again. Every issue should be solvable without reformatting HDD.

Although it might require a different Linux system to access HDD or SD to fix the issue.

Will apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade upgrade the kernel too?
