[SOLVED] XU4 Shutdown still consuming current

All
To give a snap shot I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on Odroid XU4

The only problem I find after running some days is the shutdown is not working properly.
Through the desktop GUI or by headless ssh way if I am issuing a shutdown command

 $ sudo poweroff 
the system is shutting down ie. the monitor is powering off and in ssh the TCP connection is broken properly.
The CPU fan is stopped but the heatsink is getting heated if I have a power adapter connected (I am using the same power adapter that ships with Odroid XU4). I fear if this goes on the CPU will be burnt out.

Guys any idea how to debug it or any place to get shutdown logs?

Which kernel version do you use now?
How is the blue LED?
Do you always have the problem per every poweroff command?

There is no way to monitor the early boot process nor poweroff process without the USB-UART kit.

Ups I missed USB to URAT kit ordering.
Even is I order it will take at least a month to reach my home!!
This is happening everytime.

I've seen a similar issue rarely with Kernel 4.14.0 ~ 4.14.4.
After updating to 4.14.5 and higher, I've never met the issue.

Which USB devices and other peripherals do you use with XU4?
We really need to reproduce the issue to find a root cause.

Yes you nailed it. My wired keyboard is dead so I am using a Logitech mouse to use the GUI.
I am using onscreen keyboard for input then connecting through WiFi module 3 to internet.
Now I am free to connect through ssh from my Mac. So 2 USB devices are connected.

I may also need to upgrade the karnel ... how to upgrade was that
$ sudo apt get-update ... sorry not on computer through my phone.
Any help upgrading for Karnel will be mush appreciated :)

You already have the latest kernel 4.14.18.
Anyway, you can update the kernel on the SSH connection with the following commands.

Remove the mouse and try "sudo poweroff" to check whether the shutdown process completes well or not.

Updated the software and checked ... same.

I checked the without even usb plugged in the shutdown is having issues.
If you check throughly then the I2C pinout in the board and the bottom side of that is getting heated even during running.
After all shutdown happens the heating is going on so after shutdown if we wait 5 min we will find the heatsink is getting heated too.
The fan is stopped and no Blue LED only Red Led. One more interesting point is the ssh pipe is getting broken multiple times over wifi.
And sometimes sudo poweroff can not shutdown Odroid XU4. Fan is still running for minutes & display is on too. I have to manually unplug the power.
Getting clueless !!!!

If you have HDMI attached try unplugging it and see if it will shutdown correctly.

HDMI can backfeed power and not let it shut down.

How was the Android test? Could you shutdown it properly?
If not, your XU4 board seems to have a hardware issue.

Android test during installation was cream. It was properly shutting down.
I was using this board for last 2years on Ubuntu 14.04, the graphics was very laggy but never had power off issue.
Now with new Karnel and OS the graphics is much faster and easy but having power off issue, hanging after shutdown etc.

I could be wrong by I believe the board is Ok ... firmware or OS issue :oops:
If you can provide some debug point will be fine. Apologies as you have already told that USB debugging tool might be needed.
I am ordering it. Please help.

No sudo poweroff is not even stopping fan and not power off. XU4 is connected with no HDMI only Wifi Module 3. :?

Please check what happens if you don't connect the WiFi module 3.

Sorry for late response Odroid. I tried with every option possible as removing HDMI or removing WifiModule 3 and connecting via USB keyboard and mouse etc but after power off the fan stops, blue light stops but XU4 is still consuming current.
The i2C chips on bottom of the board and the main heat sink is getting hot after keeping it for 4-5 min powered on.

FYI I reinstalled the entire OS once more, but it seems to have no improvement and now even Fan is spinning in its full speed after 'poweroff' command or throught GUI.

I believe something could be wrong with Kernel 4.14.y.
But it is really hard to find a root cause since we can't reproduce the issue.

Do you use a SD card? or eMMC?
If you use a SD card, let me know the brand/model name to reproduce the issue.

Thanks Odroid for the direction ... nope I use eMMC not SD card.
In another thread as I described I updated the corrupted boot loader of my eMMC by Samsung SD card.
Then installed Ubuntu 16.04

The major issue is resolved ie. on power off command my Odroid XU4 is properly shutting down. I am testing till last 2-3 hours with multiple power down, no issue :D :D
One thing I noticed the blue LED is blinking like a heart beat .... a little differ in this Kernel kinda cool.
But still have one issue left ... Wifi dongle 3 is loosing network after an interval of 2-3 hours on continuous work.
If I plug back mouse/keyboard and HDMI and reselect my home network it stays on that network for another 2-3 hours. :?
The same is true if I physically unplug Wifi module 3 and plug back on USB 2 port. :cry:

One more clue is the Blue LED on Wifi module 3 is still on... I mean it is active.

Hmm bad news.
I was trying to check for your solution and booted up with display connected.
I did not check after new kernel update (the last one). My dock & application bar at top (where the time shows) is gone now.
I searched a bit found this viewtopic.php?f=136&t=21541 but did not bring it back.

Bad part is I found another post in Ubuntu form as of my issue https://askubuntu.com/questions/483358/ ... is-missing

After instal also the bars were not coming... side effect is if you open any window (like after double clicking odroid's Home) the window dragging is very slow.
I can say that after kernel update it was not laggy .. it happened just after

I am bothering you with some noonish questions but any way I can uninstall that and bring back dock?

a. Power management was ON by default with Wlan0 and it really does not work very well. So, I disabled it permanently and that solved the deauthentication issue (which even happened if there was a Ping running or music streaming- so it should not have gone to sleep).

How to disable power management for Wifi module 3?

Thanks a million Odroid. Without the kit we might not be able to resolve the issue.
Now my kernel is as follows and I checked for 3 days now the problem is completely gone. :D
