Which Ubuntu may I choose?

Unread postby mush-room » Thu Jan 25, 2018 2:20 am

Hi!

Sorry for this very basic question. I am rather a user than a developer. ;)

preamble
I had been using my C2 together with the ( provided by hardkernel?) Ubuntu Mate for a while.
At some point months ago, the browser stopped using the MALI graphics acceleration, and beside
that, the 8GB eMMC was pretty crowded by the OS leaving no space for programs.
Hence, at this point I had given up using the C2.

Time for revitalisation! :)
I'm looking for a lightweight UBUNTU derivative, which runs on the C2, and after installation
leaves sufficient space on the 8GB eMMC for programs. Which may I choose?

Thanks for Your support and greetings from Germany!

The latest Chromium updates broke the Mali GPU driver compatibility.
Refer this guide to fix it.

If you cleanly flash this Ubuntu image, you may have only ~3GB space.

If you remove LibreOffice and related packages, you will have ~4GB space probably.

@odroid THANKS for Your support!
Haven't managed to refresh C2-operation yet. :-(
Now UBUNTU 18.04 is out.
Does anybody work on adapting this very fresh UBUNTU 18.04 to run on the ODROID C2?

Greetings!

We are building Ubuntu 18.04 image for ODROID-XU4 series now.
We may need a few weeks to settle down some known/unknown issues.
If there is no serious issue, we will start to port it for C2/C1 series in May.
So you might need to wait several weeks to play with Ubuntu 18.04 on your C2.

18.04 on the C2

Good to hear, thank you. I am curious if you have tried Wayland on the 18.04 builds, and wondering if that might help improve GUI performance.

4.x kernel seems to be getting closer -- really looking forward to that as well.
