HDMI audio issues on Android

Unread post by andrewraj » Wed Aug 09, 2017 3:33 pm

I'm new to this forum and I'm unable to find any issues on the forum that is similar to mine.

I bought the C2 alone with the Android emmc and started using it over HDMI to my TV.
However within a short period, the audio stopped working and would never work again.
I have tried the latest image 3 times and it happened again and again. I'm unable to trace the trigger.
Yesterday as I was watching a movie, the sound suddenly went off and never came back again.
Different apps such as Spotify might output the audio but it breaks/stutter.

I've tried rebooting, turning off power, and everything I could but I cannot find a way to solve it unless I flash again.
What could be the issue?

Which app did you use to play video?

Try to disable the display autodetection feature by editing the boot.ini file.

Code: Select all

"setenv display_autodetect "false"

The previous times I was using Kodi, VLC. Yesterday it was an app called HeroTalkies.
Can I try to understand, what does setting the display_autodetect does to the audio?

I thought any error in the EDID information might affect the feature of sound over HDMI interface.

Did you change any other settings with ODROID-Utility app?

Nop, did not change any settings in that app.

I see.

Also try "setenv disablehpd "true" if disabling the display_autodetect option doesn't help.
The HPD(hot-plug-detection) can be a root cause too.

BTW, let me know the file name of the OS image you flashed.

Surprisingly, after an entire day of leaving the c2 without power made the audio work again. Should I wait for it to happen again or edit the boot.ini file?

Unfortunately, I still face the same issue. I tried both the methods you gave and rebooted each time to test.
None worked. Any other ideas?

I think your HDMI cable or plug seems to have a problem since nobody reported the same issue.

Which power supply do you use?
If you use our official 5V/2A PSU with DC barrel jack, remove the J1 jumper on the C2 board.

I was testing it for a bit, however none of the solutions worked. I have already changed both HDMI and my audio cables, but still the same.
Today as I was watching YouTube, the audio started break. It didn't go off completely, but started breaking/stutter.

Yes, I am using the official power supply. I will try after removing the jumper.

After removing the jumper, I have not faced this issue yet so far. Could this be the cause for the audio problems I was facing?

In sufficient power supply or higher power consumption might cause the HDMI audio problem or system stability.
Removing the J1 jumper could reduce the power consumption and heat around 20% and it might solve the HDMI stability problem.
